The 'Making of' of Campofrío's emotional Christmas spot

The McCann agency and the production company La Joya Producciones nod to previous campaigns in a tribute to firefighters and those who “are burned.”

“This year we have all been burned something.” Under this claim, the McCann agency has designed a different campaign for Campofrío. After the devastating fire that devastated the Spanish meat factory in La Bureba (Burgos) a few weeks ago, Campofrío opted to give a radical turn to its campaign initially planned for Christmas.

In the campaign, several 'burned' citizens tell their stories and real difficulties when faced with investing in preferreds or closing businesses. These anonymous citizens share a spot with some workers from the La Bureba factory, and the firefighters who contributed to extinguishing the fire.

The production company La Joya Producciones and the director Benito Zambrano have managed to give shape to McCann's idea with an emotional spot in which, starting from the hopelessness of the fire, the comedians Santiago Segura, Chus Lampreave, Chiquito de la Calzada or Alfonso Aragón (Fofito), give a touch of humor and hope. Even the teacher Miguel Gila participates in the spot, recovering a gag about firefighters for the occasion.

Campofrío thus raises a call for humor as a recipe to overcome difficulties and, as the marketing director of Campofrío Spain has highlighted, "we discarded the initial idea, which was also very brilliant and funny, considering that we could not ignore what has happened and its consequences for hundreds of our colleagues' families. In the end we decided to be faithful to our principles: that nothing and no one take away our way of enjoying life."

The spot was filmed in Burgos using a camera ARRI Amira with Rafa Lluch as director of photography.
