ARRI surprises with the announcement of the Alexa Mini
This camera will undoubtedly be very useful in aerial shots from drones or, with a housing, in underwater productions.
The popular Alexa camera ARRI Starting at the end of May, it will have a “younger sister” since the German company has announced the launch of the Alexa Mini.
With this camera, ARRI aims to allow production teams to eliminate the complications of working with cameras from other manufacturers, thus keeping everything within a single system.
The camera will be made of light carbon and will have a titanium PL mount. The interchangeable lens can be replaced with any of those designed for the ARRI Amira, allowing the use of B4 and EF mount lenses.
A lens driver motor will allow full control of the PL optics, while ARRI's Lens Data System technology will provide frame-accurate metadata.
The camera will be equipped with a four-thirds Alev III sensor and automatic de-squeeze mode for anamorphic productions, and can work at speeds between 0.75-200fps. A mini recorder will allow you to record in ArriRAW 2.8K or ProRes 3.2K directly to CFast 2.0 cards or, where appropriate, use an external Codex recorder that will allow you to record streams from four Alexa Minis at the same time.
The new Alexa Mini can be operated by wireless remote control, like a normal camera, with the Arri MVF-1 viewfinder, or with an on-board monitor and control through the user interface of the button on the body of the camera itself.
In addition, iOS or Android devices can be used via WiFi to remotely control camera functions such as the internal motorized ND filters.
