ARRI has integrated a high-quality, low-latency HD video transmitter and a WiFi radio into the new Alexa SXT W (W, for wireless) model. Based on the popular Alexa SXT Plus, the SXT W will replace the Alexa SXT Plus and Alexa SXT Studio models. For owners of the Alexa SXT EV and Alexa SXT Plus, ARRI will offer upgrade options.

The new hardware will be accompanied by the SXT SUP 2.0 software update that adds improved HDR monitoring, support for SxS PRO+ and CFast 2.0 cards, faster frame captures, various features for WCU-4 and lens engine and other improvements.

Having a video transmitter built into the Alexa SXT W makes it smaller and lighter than it would be with an external transmitter. That also means fewer cables around the camera and fewer problems caused by wiring as cable failures are by far the most common technical mishaps on set. Camera setup and power-up will be faster, and productions will be able to move more quickly.

Additionally, the integrated WiFi radio opens up a full range of options, starting with wireless on-set color management and continuing with wireless camera remote control with the Alexa Web Remote. Other interesting WiFi options are currently in development.

The Alexa SXT W is part of a new and complete ARRI Wireless Video System, along with a stand-alone video transmitter for use with other ARRI or third-party cameras and a stand-alone video receiver for receiving signals from either transmitter. At the core of the system is technology Amimon with special hardware and software modifications that meet ARRI's strict demands for performance and quality.

Accessories

A wide range of accessories includes various mounting clamps, antenna extensions and the handheld Director's Monitor Stand (DMS-1) as well as a specially adapted Transvideo monitor with an attached receiver for ARRI transmitters. Whether using this monitor or others, this modular system allows for a compact and efficient setup. An extra power output on the video receiver, for example, allows a built-in battery to power the receiver and an attached handheld monitor.

For the director, cinematographer, assistant or anyone else on set, feeding a monitor from the ARRI Wireless Video System increases creative control and aids in supervision without adding more bulk to the camera setup or causing potential difficulties for the crew. From the protective rings on the connectors to the versatile mounting options, all of ARRI's expertise has been poured into the ergonomics and durability of the system. Designed for use in the real world of professional film sets, each component is splash- and dust-proof, constructed of durable materials, and features a wide operating temperature range.

Interference between different radio frequencies can cause delays for camera equipment. The ARRI Wireless Video System eliminates this problem because it works in harmony with other radio-based features offered by the Alexa SXT W: WiFi and ECS, ARRI's patented camera and lens control system. Since ARRI now meets all requirements for wireless video, crews can rest assured that there will be no problems on set. High-quality video streams from the Alexa SXT W and standalone transmitters are long-range, uncompressed, and encrypted for security. Audio, timecode and REC flag are included in the signal with zero delay, and up to four receivers can be used per transmitter.
