Panasonic introduces the Firefox operating system on its new Smart TVs

As an open source system, Firefox offers more flexibility to developers to create new applications and services, thus enabling connectivity experiences across different platforms.

Panasonic has presented today at the Panasonic Convention 2015, held in Frankfurt, a new interface with the Firefox operating system for its Smart TVs.

The new Panasonic range is equipped with a host of features, including My Home Screen 2.0 and Info Frame, designed to make you enjoy TV content and apps faster and more efficiently than ever.

A new intuitive and customizable interface

Panasonic includes the Firefox operating system in its new Smart TVs, thanks to which My Home Screen 2.0 is renewed and becomes a single portal that allows access to all channels, applications and connected devices.

Thus, Panasonic offers an intuitive and powerful interface that makes it easier than ever to access your favorite content. Being based on HTML5, the new web browser is much more powerful, faster, secure and compatible with a greater number of pages, since it is a flexible but robust operating system at the same time.

My Home Screen 2.0 can be fully customized to meet user needs and is divided into navigation screens, three of which come by default with the platform. The first is Live TV, with which you can watch live broadcasts and create a personalized home screen with the channels most viewed by the user.

The Apps screen is also available, which thanks to the powerful Firefox interface allows access to the television applications available on the Panasonic Smart TV. These applications will allow access from the most popular video on demand services to games.

Finally, the user has the devices screen, which shows the devices connected to the television, either via Wi-Fi or cable, whether tablets, smartphones, computers, Blu-Ray players, SD cards or USBs.

As a novelty, there is also a new search tool in My Home Screen 2.0 that searches among all available content, including internet video services, web pages and any other external device that is connected.

Once the searched content is located, the interface allows you to mark it as a favorite, whether from television channels, applications, websites or external devices using the “Add to Home Screen” function to later be able to quickly access this content.

The new interface incorporates Info Frame, which combines everything from weather information, TV program recommendations to the user's favorite websites on a single screen.

Connectivity across all devices

The Firefox operating system has been developed with open source, allowing users to send photos, videos or other content from any Smartphone, Tablet or computer with a Firefox browser or any other compatible application.

This means that users are no longer limited to the compatibility of one brand or one operating system. Sending content through Firefox does not require any additional hardware, the user just has to make sure that their Smart TV with Firefox is connected to the Wi-Fi network.
