Inés París films 'The night my mother killed my father'
It is the fourth feature-length fiction film from Paris, after My mother likes women, Semen, a love story y Michael and William.
Inés París is filming these days in Valencia, and until the end of the month, The night my mother killed my father. Starring Belén Rueda, this is her first foray into a film comedy, “in a character that has been written for her and in a register, of pure and simple comedy, in which we are not used to seeing it,” the director emphasizes.
For Paris, "our protagonists are all artists and bohemians: an actress, a film director, a writer, a nightlife entrepreneur. All fragile people, with a lot of ego, a lot of personality and more imagination, who are obsessed and desperate to succeed in their profession."
Together with Belén Rueda, The night my mother killed my father brings together a cast of great actors who add their talent to this “comedy of characters”, as its director and screenwriter describes it, with whom Fernando Colomo has collaborated in writing. Diego Peretti, Eduard Fernández, María Pujalte, Fele Martínez and Patricia Montero are co-stars of this "peculiar 'human zoo' in which everyone is or has been a couple and has children in common. Their 'modernity', 'tolerance' and 'rationality' are seen with humor and complicity. Because we all know that no matter how well we get along with someone who has been our partner, there are always pending accounts...", says Paris.
This production is the fourth fiction feature film, after My mother likes women, Semen, a love story y Michael and William.
In The night my mother killed my father, Isabel is the host of a very special dinner: her husband Ángel, a screenwriter, and Susana, Ángel's ex-wife, a film director, want to convince the Argentine actor Diego Peretti to star in a film they have written. In the middle of the evening, to everyone's surprise, an unexpected event occurs that changes the course of the dinner.
Isabel, played by Belén Rueda, struggles with her need to feel valued professionally as an actress, her insecurities, her fear of aging, her coquetry, her contradictions, her intelligence and anxiety.
“The importance of female characters is a constant in all my films: from the protagonists of My mother likes women (Leonor Watling, Rosa María Sardá…), by Michael and William (Elena Anaya) or the co-star of Semen, a love story -played by Leticia Dolera and who does not know the maternal instinct-, to the flesh and blood women that I have portrayed in my documentaries," emphasizes Inés París.
Although the film is a comedy, among its lines it contains very burning issues today about women, and integrated into the script since its first version two years ago, which became headlines at the last Oscar gala enhanced by some of the most important actresses of the moment.
Produced by Beatriz de la Gándara (To the South of Granada, My mother likes women, The Picasso band) for Sangam Films, Post Eng Producciones y Rodajefilms, The night my mother killed my father It has the collaboration of TVE, Canal+ and Ono. Among the professionals in its technical team are the director of photography Néstor Calvo (The Barbarian Years, The Wolf) and the editor Ángel Hernández Zoido (Eight Basque surnames).
