Sky closes its 3D channel to make way for 4K
Sky 3D, launched in 2010, will end its broadcasts on June 9.
The British broadcaster Sky plans to end the broadcasts of its channel in 3D on June 9. From that date, viewers who want to access 3D content will have to access its video on demand service.
The closure of the 3D channel will free up the bandwidth that Sky needs to launch its Ultra High Definition offering.
Before Sky, ESPN turned off 3D broadcasts in June 2013, while Canal+ France stopped them in January 2012. In Spain, Canal+ still maintains its stereoscopic offering.
