TotalChannel collapses in the first round of Champions
Mediapro recommends accessing via web “two hours in advance” preferably through beIN Sports Connect to follow the Champions League.
Thousands of fans who subscribed to the TotalChannel platform to follow the Champions League, due to the lack of agreement between Mediapro and Movistar, suffered continuous connection problems and service drops.
Totalchannel apologized today in a statement stating that this service "is a platform designed for viewing content in VOD mode, where a high number of views of the same product rarely coincide."
In this case, more than 120,000 people registered on the platform, with connections concentrating a few minutes before the start of the match. This high influx of fans has caused oversaturation of the input channels.
According to TotalChannel, these incidents affected "a limited number of subscribers (approximately 7,000) who were denied access to the platform's content. The connection problems were concentrated in the first minutes, becoming normal throughout the broadcast."
Subscribers who had accessed the channel's content in advance were able to follow the meeting normally and without incident, according to the platform.
To prevent a similar situation from occurring again in matches with high attendance of subscribers, TotalChannel advises "connecting to the channel at least one hour in advance and not changing the channel until the end of the match that you do not want to see." In any case, the platform recommends that BeIN Sport subscribers who have connection problems access through their web.
This is not the first time that TotalChannel “dies of success” with connection problems due to high subscriber concurrency. The last big fall took place last May during the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
