'Loreak' will represent Spain in the race towards the Oscars
The film, the first in Basque to represent Spain at the Oscars, prevails over 'Magical Girl' and 'Felices 140'.
The Film Academy has chosen the film Loreak to represent Spain at the 88th edition of the Oscars in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
The academics have been able to choose the film directed by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga over the other candidates: Happy 140, by Gracia Querejeta and Magical Girl, by Carlos Vermut.
For the first time, the Academy has chosen a film shot in Basque to present at the Oscars. The actors Irene Escolar and Álvaro Cervantes were in charge of announcing the result of the vote at noon this Tuesday at the Academy headquarters.
The Jon Garaño-Jose Mari Goenaga tandem directs and co-writes the script (along with Aitor Arregi) of The flowers, their second film together after “80 egunean”.
This story, a drama about three women whose lives are altered by the mere presence of bouquets of flowers, stars Nagore Aranburu, Itziar Ituño, Itziar Aizpuru, Josean Bengoetxea and Egoitz Lasa.
