Almodóvar's film manages to prevail over 'Buñuel in the Turtles' Labyrinth', by Salvador Simó; and 'While the war lasts', by Alejandro Amenábar.

The Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain has unveiled this Thursday the film that will represent Spain at the 92nd edition of the Oscars.

In recent weeks, academics have been able to vote for their favorite option among Buñuel in the turtle labyrinth, by Salvador Simó; While the war lasts, by Alejandro Amenábar; and pain and glory, of Pedro Almodovar.

Finally, it will be the last film by the filmmaker from La Mancha that chooses to represent Spain in the Oscar category for Best International Film.

Actress Belén Cuesta, who has films pending release The infinite trench, Lithuanian y Advantages of traveling by train, has been in charge of opening the envelope to announce the chosen film at the Academy headquarters.

pain and gloryAlmodóvar has represented Spain in the Best Foreign Language Film section of the Oscars on six occasions, the last with his previous feature film, Juliet, in 2017. Almodóvar already has a statuette in this category for All about my mother in 2000, the third Spanish film to achieve the distinction.

"At the moment I am traveling to the Toronto Festival, so I cannot be at the Academy with all of you, but I want to thank the Spanish academics for the support and the opportunity to be able to compete, once again, in the category of Best International Film at the next Oscars. It is quite an honor to represent our industry, Toronto is precisely a perfect place to start our campaign. It will not be easy to be among the five nominees because there is a lot of competition, every year more, but I will do, together with El Deseo and Sony Pictures Classics, everything possible so that So be it. I want to share my joy with all the actors and technicians who have participated in the film. Thank you to them for their talent and dedication, and to the Academy for giving us this opportunity," Pedro Almodóvar said in a statement upon learning of the election.
