'Pain and Glory' and 'La casa de papel' triumph at the VII Edition of the Platino Awards

Pedro Almodóvar's feature film wins six awards, including best film, and
'La casa de papel' has been the most awarded series with a total of three awards, including best Ibero-American cinematographic miniseries or teleseries.

Spanish production Pain and Glory, of Pedro Almodovar, has turned out to be the great winner of the VII Edition of the Platinum Xcaret Awards with a total of six figurines. The film was the winner of this virtual edition in the categories of best film, direction, screenplay, male performer, original music and editing direction.

The production of El Deseo and El Primer Deseo has been praised as the best Ibero-American fiction film, while the name of its director, Pedro Almodóvar, has been repeated twice as best direction and best script. The renowned filmmaker adds these trophies to the one he obtained in 2017 when he won the Platinum Award for best director for Juliet.

For his part, the actor Antonio Banderas, protagonist of the film, has won the award for Best Male Performance, adding this recognition to the Platinum Honor that was awarded to him in 2015.

Pain and Glory has also won the awards for best editing direction for Teresa Font and best original music for Alberto Iglesias, who has his fourth consecutive award in this same section after those achieved in 2017 by Juliet, in 2018 by The Mountain Range and last year (2019) by July.

The award for Best Female Performance has fallen to Carol Duarte, protagonist of the film The invisible life, by Karim Aïnouz. This is the second time that a Brazilian actress has achieved this, after Sonia Braga in 2017.

In what has been the first nomination for Costa Rica in the history of the Platino Xcaret Awards, The awakening of the ants (first film by Antonella Sudassasi) has won the Film and Education in Values ​​Award; recognition that highlights productions whose stories make a contribution to the socio-educational level. In the educational field, the organizers of this film event have shown special sensitivity in recent years, an example of this is the creation of the platform EDUCA Platinum with a pedagogical objective and cultural dissemination through the seventh art.

The feature film by Salvador Simó, Buñuel in the turtle labyrinth has been awarded as best animated film, and Vertigo Democracy, by Petra Costa, has obtained the Platinum for Best Documentary Film, thus becoming the second Brazilian work to be awarded Best Documentary in the history of these awards, after The Salt of the Earth in 2015. The award for Best First Feature went to the Mexican film The Chambermaid, by Lila Avilés.

The cinematographic honors are completed by the awards for best cinematography, which went to Jasper Wolf, and the one with the best sound direction, which was won Lena Esquenazi, both for the Colombian film Monkeys. The best art direction has been for Juan Pedro de Gaspar by While the war lasts.

The VII Edition of the Platino Xcaret Awards has also distinguished the best works by chapters and the big winner in 2020 has been the Spanish series The Money Heist, which has received a total of three awards: best Ibero-American cinematographic miniseries or teleseries, best male performance in a series for Álvaro Morte, and best female supporting performance in a series for Alba Flores.

For the second consecutive year, the Mexican actress Cecilia Suarez, host of last year's gala, has been awarded Best Female Performance for her role in The flower house, while the Argentine actor Gerardo Romano has been recognized with the award for Best Male Supporting Performance in the series El Marginal III.
