The Platino Awards will celebrate their IX edition on May 1 in Madrid

The Platinum Awards, the awards that annually recognize the best of Ibero-American audiovisual production, will be held again at the IFEMA Municipal Palace of Madrid on May 1, the eve of the most important festivities of the year for the Community and City of Madrid.

The IX Edition of the awards that each year recognize the best of the production of Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries will be held at the IFEMA Municipal Palace, headquarters of the last edition, to celebrate the union of the Ibero-American regions in one of the great events of international culture.

After the celebration of the VIII Edition of the PLATINO Awards, the event will once again bring together all the agents of the Ibero-American audiovisual sector, who were able to meet again after the global health crisis in the Spanish capital to celebrate the successes of the industry. The awards will once again rely on a strict anti-covid protocol, which was so successful in its previous edition, to preserve the safety of all those attending the great festival of Ibero-American culture.

With the celebration of the IX Platino Awards in Madrid, the community of Madrid and its capital become the venue that has hosted the awards the most times after having previously hosted them in 2017 and 2021. The gala, which will take place on the eve of the Community of Madrid Day and the San Isidro festivities, will be held again at the IFEMA Municipal Palace, the space where the VIII Edition took place, with the aim of repeating its success following the organization's commitment of the awards for the city, thanks also to the determined support of the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council.

Tras el inicio de su andadura en Panamá en 2014, su celebración en España (Marbella) en 2015, en Uruguay (Punta del Este) en 2016, y en Madrid en 2017, México fue el anfitrión de los Platino durante 2018 y 2019. Con la crisis sanitaria mundial, los galardones se entregaron telemáticamente en 2020, y en 2021 volvieron a reunir a los representantes más importantes del audiovisual de los países iberoamericanos en Madrid, ciudad clave como punto de encuentro para la industria del cine y las series, pero también para el turismo, la educación o la cultura.

El indiscutible éxito de la última edición de estos galardones se materializó en un valor publicitario récord que superó los 163 millones de dólares y más de 66.000 noticias publicadas, un hito a pesar del impacto de la pandemia mundial en el sector audiovisual que demuestra la capacidad de adaptación de los galardones a la compleja situación sanitaria a nivel internacional. Esta amplia repercusión mediática contribuyó la presencia de lo más granado de la cultura iberoamericana, que mantiene su pujanza a nivel internacional gracias al continuo éxito de su talento y sus producciones, en la gala de entrega de los premios que presentaron Juana Acosta y Luis Gerardo Méndez, televisada por 21 cadenas que recalcan la amplia difusión y alcance con los que cuenta el evento.

Premiados en 2021

La IX Edición de los Premios Platino coronará a la sucesora de The oblivion that we will be, que se alzó con cinco galardones: Mejor Película Iberoamericana de Ficción, Mejor Interpretación Masculina, Mejor Guion y Mejor Dirección de Arte. Las producciones televisivas intentarán emular el éxito de Patria, otra de las grandes destacadas en la VIII Edición con cuatro galardones: Mejor Serie, Mejor Interpretación Femenina en Miniserie o Teleserie, Mejor Interpretación Femenina de Reparto en Miniserie o Teleserie y Mejor Creador de Serie. También se conocerá al nuevo Premio Platino de Honor, que recogerá el testigo de Diego Luna, último homenajeado con este galardón.

Los Premios Platino del Cine Iberoamericano, promovidos por EGEDA (Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de los Productores Audiovisuales), con FIPCA (Federación Iberoamericana de Productores Cinematográficos y Audiovisuales) y con el apoyo de las Academias e Institutos de Cine Iberoamericanos, aúnan los grandes talentos de las industrias de los 23 países iberoamericanos, ensalzando a las producciones y a los creadores más destacados de cada año con veintidós galardones y un Premio Platino de Honor.
