Presentación de 'Estrategias y escenarios para redes y servicios UHF''

The RTVE Chair at the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid has just published the book Strategies and scenarios for UHF networks and services. The book, the first publication of its kind in Spain, this coordinated by José Manuel Menéndez and Carlos Alberto Martín and has been edited by the RTVE Institute.

In December of last year, the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and the Information Society hosted a conference on strategies and scenarios for UHF networks and services. On that day, the most representative agents of the sector debated the repercussions that future decisions on the UHF band could have, as a second digital dividend is planned and even a possible review of the use of the rest of this band, attributed exclusively to terrestrial television broadcasting services in the vast majority of countries today.

Strategies and scenarios for UHF networks and servicesGiven that it was the first time that this issue was addressed at a Spanish level and given the interest that this event aroused, the Spanish Association of Telecommunications Engineers of the Community of Madrid, the RTVE Institute, Cellnex Telecom and UNIRED decided to collect in a publication what happened there, since the different positions and trends expressed there would, with complete certainty, have a notable influence on the future configuration of the audiovisual framework.

The task of coordinating the publication fell to the RTVE Chair at the ETSIT-UPM and, specifically, to two professionals of recognized prestige, José Manuel Menéndez García and Carlos Alberto Martín Edo, who constructed the story of what happened on the day and compiled the different presentations in a book of the same name.

Since that day there have been numerous negotiations in different organizations (International Telecommunications Union and its supranational organizations, such as the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations in our area), in which all the countries of the world and even the international groups that represent them, such as the European Union in the case of Spain, have defined their positions regarding the celebration of the 2015 World Radiocommunications Conference.

The book has been presented at the Engineering Institute of Spain where some of the speakers of that day met with their coordinators.

Pere Vila, director of Technology, Innovation and Systems at RTVE, thanked “the collaboration of all parties that made possible the conference on strategies and scenarios for UHF networks and services, which is reflected in this publication and highlights the great interest that exists on the part of all agents in the future of audiovisuals.”

One of the coordinators of the book, José Manuel Menéndez, has stressed that "we have tried to collect all the presentations within the strictest objectivity. This publication is transcendental, since we are living the previous chapter to an evolution of the audiovisual world and it states the bases on which, in all probability, its transformation will be based."
