As part of the restructuring plan that Toshiba has launched, the Japanese multinational would intend to sell to Sony Your image sensor unit. According to the Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Masashi Muromachi, new CEO of the company after the fiscal scandal that has shaken the company, aims to do without areas with minor margins.

Last year, Sony sold 40% of all image sensors in the world while for Toshiba this business area barely represented 1.9% of sales.

This operation would help Sony increase its market share in sensors against Omnivision (15.7%) and Samsung (15.2%).

This news comes just a month after Sony will announce that it will boost the image sensor business under a company called Sony Semiconductor Solutions.
