As part of the restructuring plan that Toshiba has been launched, the Japanese multinational would intend to sell to Sony its image sensor unit. According to the Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Masashi Muromachi, the company's new CEO after the tax scandal that has shaken the company, intends to dispense with areas with lower margins.

Last year, Sony sold 40% of all image sensors in the world while for Toshiba this business area barely represented 1.9% of sales.

This operation would help Sony increase its market share in sensors compared to Omnivision (15.7%) and Samsung (15.2%).

This news comes just a month after Sony announced that it will boost the image sensor business under a company called Sony Semiconductor Solutions.
