Likewise, Sony Pictures will be responsible for the distribution of the film in Spain, Latin America and the United States.

Oro is a period adventure inspired by the expedition of 16th century Spanish conquistadors Lope de Aguirre and Núñez de Balboa, following their epic expedition through the Amazon rainforest in search of a mythical city believed to be made entirely of gold.

Iván Losada, general director of Sony Pictures Spain, commented that “given the exciting story of Reverte, the great skill and vision of Yanes as a filmmaker and the combined experience and passion of Apache Films and Atresmedia, Oro “It is a project that represents a great bet for Sony Spain.”

Oro brings together Goya-winning director Yanes (“Alatriste”) with best-selling author Reverte, whose work has been translated into more than 40 languages and has sold more than 15 million copies. Yanes and Reverte last collaborated on the Goya-winning blockbuster Alatriste, starring Viggo Mortensen.
