The adventures of Zipi and Zape come to life on the big screen
Director Oskar Santos has just finished filming 'Zipi y Zape y el Club de la Canica', produced by Zeta Cinema, MOD Producciones, Antena 3 Films and Kowalski Films.
Based on the popular comic created by Escobar, Zipi and Zape and the Marble Club has just completed filming. This film is a production of Zeta Cinema (I want you, 3 meters above the sky), MOD Productions (Biutiful, Agora), Antena 3 Films (Torrente 4, Los Ojos de Julia) and Kowalski Films (I, toon), directed by Oskar Santos (The Evil of Others) that Buena Vista International will distribute in theaters.
The adventures of Zipi and Zape are brought to the big screen with a script by Jorge Lara (Aida, Brain Drain) and Francisco Roncal (Paco's Men). An exciting journey that involves a reunion with the most famous and funniest twins in Spanish comics.
The live-action film began filming at the beginning of July, taking place for nine weeks in natural locations in Hungary (Budapest and surrounding areas) and the Basque Country (Guipúzcoa).
The cast combines the experience of Javier Gutiérrez (Torrente, Red Eagle), Alex Angulo (The Day of the Beast, Toledo), Javier Cifrián (The one that is coming, The Near East) with the freshness of Claudia Vega (Eva), Marcos Ruiz (Cousins), Christian Mulas (Phantom Promotion). But without a doubt, the big bet of the film is that of the young actors who play Zipi and Zape: two new faces who will give a lot to talk about and who have been selected from more than 5,000 children in a casting by schools throughout Spain.
An adventure movie
In the words of its director, Oskar Santos, "it is an adventure film, with moments of mystery, friendship, love, with a wonderful villain... And, above all, it is a story for all audiences, which is conceived like those games from my childhood: for children between 3 and 99 years old."
Executive production is carried out by Mod Producciones. Producer Fernando Bovaira has commented that "when making the adaptation there were two options: make a comedy of manners that reflected Escobar's world in his comic strips, or make a great adventure film for the whole family with elements of action and comedy. And we decided on the second."
