The Animayo International Festival is already preparing its eleventh edition on the island of Gran Canaria, between May 3 and 7.

Anime 2015

In its eleventh edition, the international festival Anime has managed to position itself throughout the world as one of the great events in animated cinema, visual effects and the field of video games, with international recognition and collaborations by large animation studios, international schools, numerous cultural and audiovisual spaces, artists, directors, distributors and producers.

Animayo promotes audiovisual education and training through an extensive training program taught by highly prestigious international speakers and guests and through talent scholarships in which it invests more than 25,000 euros per year to support Canarian artistic talent, with the aim of professionalizing a booming sector. And Animayo is a project closely linked to the professional future, under the conviction that great talents and directors of the audiovisual arts will emerge in the Canary Islands. With its activity framed within the “Animayo Educational System”, it has created a creative laboratory for the detection and development of audiovisual talent that it develops throughout the year for teachers and students of primary, secondary, high school, middle and higher grade educational centers.

During these ten years, more than 40,000 primary, secondary and high school students, 30,000 students from vocational training courses, arts schools and universities, 18,000 adult amateurs and industry professionals have passed through Animayo.

That is why it is unavoidable that at its annual event in Gran Canaria we once again have masterclasses, workshops, presentations, presentations, discussion tables as well as screenings and its official competition section. These activities have as much or more importance in Animayo than the traditional screenings that happen at a festival. It is about encouraging attendees to know and learn, to participate in all possible artistic manifestations, multiplatform creative environments, the latest advances in the audiovisual sector and to become the future of animation.

International projection

Animayo has opened its doors beyond Gran Canaria and is currently taking place in 4 official headquarters: Gran Canaria, Madrid, Lanzarote and Los Angeles, California. In addition to its official headquarters, Animayo tours the world with its Animayo Itinerant version in different regions such as Seville, Huesca, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Tenerife and in countries such as Uruguay, Italy, Holland, Germany, Portugal and India where for its work it received a tribute in Boollywwod (Bombay), the city where the Indian film industry is concentrated.

In this edition Animayo takes another step towards strengthening the industry by creating the First European Forum for Co-production of Animation, Visual Effects and Video Games of Gran Canaria. Through this forum, Animayo aims to promote meetings between creators, producers, distributors and other companies related to this audiovisual sector for both film and television and new platforms. In the forum, the institutional support of Gran Canaria takes special importance, dedicating an important chapter to the promotion of tax incentives to host productions and filming on the island.

With this forum Animayo closes the circle that leads from undiscovered talent to active professionals. The forum pitching sessions will be another fundamental element within the program, where each chosen project will have 40 minutes to present itself to potential partners.
