Gran Canaria will host the Animayo international animation summit from May 2 to 5

The 13th edition of the Summit, Conference and International Film Festival of Animation, Visual Effects and Videogames Animayo is held at the CICCA, Teatro Guiniguada and Alameda de Colón, between May 2 and 5 under the special 'Couples, tandems and teams'.

The dates will be from May 2 to 5. Its venue this year will once again take as its main center of operations, the La Caja de Canarias Initiative Center (CICCA), in addition to the Guiniguada Theater for the competitive screenings that will later give rise to the Official Awards and finally the Alameda de Colón itself, where it will close, after a concert and numerous surprise outdoor activities, during the final day on Saturday, May 5.

This 13th edition is presented with a much broader program of activities and guests, as well as a truly luxurious team among its guest stars, who arrive for the first time in the Canary Islands, to participate in their different master classes, presentations, forums, courses, workshops, portfolio reviews and 'recruitments'.

Animayo is the first Spanish animation festival declared a 'qualifying festival' by the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Oscars. The winners of Animayo 2018 may be taken into account in the 'animated short film' category of the Academy Awards.

This year's specific theme will be especially dedicated to Pairs, tandems and teams in the world of animation.

Animayo was born in 2006 and today has an average of more than 15,000 participants per edition, directed by the Spanish director and producer Damián Perea, one of the current Spanish ambassadors of the European Animation Émile Awards.

It is currently a reference in the field of animation on an international scale, and its objective is to generate fertile soil for new generations, a platform for knowledge and for the development of all creative processes, from children to adults, in order to create a professional network and a job opportunity for talent. It takes place in the month of May on the island of Gran Canaria and extends its programming to other cities in the world, a project called Itinerant Animayo. Currently, itinerant tours are taking place in Los Angeles, Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Lanzarote, Bombay, Chicago, Portugal, Prague and Colombia.

During the Animayo Gran Canaria festival, the films in competition that will give rise to the Official Awards are screened, within an extensive program that contains master classes by international artists, presentations, courses, workshops, training spaces, outdoor activities, film specials, virtual reality and video game spaces, concerts, recruitments, portfolio reviews and forums. The Official Prize Winner of Animayo is the result of an annual competition of works of 2D animation, 3D animation, visual effects, experimental, advertising pieces, animation spots, video clips and video game cinematics

For seven years, Animayo has also offered scholarships and launched projects for training, employment and attracting companies and investors in the audiovisual sector.
