Animayo, qualifying festival for the Oscars in the animated short category
The Gran Canaria Animayo competition makes history by becoming the first Spanish animation festival declared a 'Qualifying Festival' by the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
El Sumit & Internationan Film Festival Anime makes history again becoming the first Spanish animation festival declared 'Festival Qualifier' by the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the awards Oscar.
The Animayo winners may be taken into account in the category of 'Animated Short Film' of the Academy Awards (Academy Awards) without having to go through the prior procedures stipulated in the Academy's rules. The short films that win the Animayo Grand Jury Prize will automatically be considered by the Selection Committee of the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the Oscars.
The works that register for the competition for the next Animayo 2018 edition, as long as they comply with the rules of the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences, will participate in the race towards the Hollywood Oscars in the animation category.
The Gran Canaria contest, which has also been a collaborator for the short film preselection for the Goya Awards In past seasons, it is the first animation festival in Spain to achieve this consideration, joining the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences itself, and other qualifying Spanish film festivals, including the Sitges, Alcine, Gijón, Bilbao and Huesca festivals.
