These real-time HEVC encoders and decoders for SD or HD now offer up to a 50% reduction in bandwidth, plus support for Main 4:2:2.

SAPEC Avantos

And NAB 2016, Sapec will present the latest advances in its line of encoders and decoders for SD or HD Avantos. Designed for broadcasters, telcos and service providers, they offer support for HEVC/H.265 compression and now, especially with contribution networks in mind, they have improved their efficiency by halving the bandwidth.

Thus, with the new update, the Avantos line will support Main 4:2:2 Profile (8/10 bits) for HEVC compression while opening up new possibilities in video distribution with end-to-end secondary latency.

Miguel Ángel Cristóbal, CEO of Sapec, highlighted that "our Avantos products are now prepared to offer one of the most optimized latencies in both encoding and decoding. With the latest update, we are one of the first providers in the world with a fully HEVC encoding/decoding solution for Main 4:2:2 Profile. Without a doubt, this improvement represents an important milestone in our roadmap to offer our clients the state of the art in terms of contribution technology."

With this update to the Avantos line, Sapec will now have the following products: VHE5210 encoder and VHD5210 decoder for HD video, VSE5210 encoder and VSD5210 decoder for SD environments. With support for HEVC, the system is ready to deliver with a 35% savings in bandwidth compared to the previous generation H.264, with a potential of up to 50%. Thus, users will be able to have a higher video quality with the same bit-rate or reduce the width while maintaining the quality, with the consequent cost savings.

Avantos solutions include HD-SDI/SDI inputs/outputs for video and support for embedded AES audio. Regarding Main 4:2:2 support, the Avantos line supports Main and Main-10 profiles for HD (720p and 1080i) and SD (480i, 575i), as well as MPEG-2 and H.264 compression (optional). As far as audio is concerned, the Avantos offer stream compression possibilities in MPEG-1, AAC, and Dolby AC3 and EAC3.

This Avantos update will be available later this quarter. Customers who have these systems will be able to update them remotely through firmware and licensing.
