This service will be available, for now, only in the United States, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom and Japan.

AmazonAs expected, Amazon also enters the video on demand segment. The online distribution and shopping giant will launch Amazon Video Direct. Users will be able to access content for rent or purchase, with or without advertising, or even packaged and offered as an additional subscription.

With this new line it aims to compete with platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo. It will have the possibility for users to market their own produced videos, committing to pay 50% of the income from rental or sale.

YouTube, which has more than 1 billion users generating billions of views per day, offers a similar free, ad-supported service as well as a subscription option (YouTube Red).

This service will be available, for now, only in the United States, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom and Japan.

To launch this initiative, Amazon has closed collaboration agreements with content generators such as Conde Nast Entertainment, The Guardian newspaper, the technology blog Mashable and the toy manufacturer Mattel.
