Amazon intends to opt for minority packages of Spanish LaLiga broadcasting rights
The e-commerce platform would be interested in these rights for its Prime Video service. In the United Kingdom, Amazon acquired a minority package for which it paid 120 million euros to broadcast a total of 20 Premier League matches per season.
After acquiring the rights to the Premier League English, Amazon also intends to qualify for the emission rights of LaLiga spanish. After doing Telefónica y Mediapro with the rights various packages of broadcasting rights from the First Division and Second Division, LaLiga keeps four lots for sale which include a First Division match (the one that Telefónica discards), eleven exclusive Second Division A matches, and 90 seconds highlights of each online match.
LaLiga plans to reach 120 million euros in the sale of these football broadcasting rights in Spain, which would be added to the 980 million from the Telefónica bid and another 160 million from Mediapro. These four lots are the only things available to Amazon until 2022, while Telefónica and Mediapro's purchases extend for the next three seasons.
