Porto Canal relies on VSN technology to renew its image and offer broader national coverage

The Portuguese channel updates its VSNMulticom automation solution and implements a new end-to-end system that automates media management, video ingest and the management and planning of all channel traffic.

The Portuguese general television channel Porto Canal has once again trusted VSN to carry out a complete renewal and update of your software solutions.

Since the partnership that occurred in 2011 between the television channel and the Portuguese soccer team F.C. Porto, Porto Canal has opted to renew its brand image and technically improve its entire existing structure to become a more global, efficient TV with a broader coverage and presence throughout its range of coverage. The objective, therefore, was to carry out this interesting commitment to change while contemplating a series of first-order requirements. Among others, it was required to integrate all the new solutions with those already existing on TV, change the channel format to HD (1080i), add new studios and a new location (F. C. Porto stadium) for the broadcast of content and finally, introduce all these improvements in a limited time and without interfering in the daily work of the channel.

To meet all the stipulated requirements, VSN has installed and implemented new software solutions in Porto Canal, among which the update of the VSNMulticom solution that television already had since its launch in 2006 stands out. In addition, it has also opted to install a central system or core for the management of all the channel's Media. Specifically, this system is made up of the VSNExplorer PAM solution and together with VSNSpider allows you to handle and manage all the content and workflows for editing and archiving the Media, thus offering Porto Canal a tool with which to manage and track the entire creative process of news production from end to end, that is, from the ingestion of files to their broadcast.

The new systems update in Porto Canal has also included the installation of Ross's Inception solution to speed up news editing; VSNAutorec and VSNCapturer modules for automated file and video ingestion; and finally, with the VSNCreaTv traffic system that allows you to control and manage in an efficient and centralized manner all the work flows of the departments involved in the production and broadcast of content.

Thanks to the implementation of all these solutions, Porto Canal has thus gone from carrying out a large part of its daily tasks purely manually, to now having a new solution that is completely automated from end to end. In this way, saving time and resources in carrying out daily work has improved the efficiency of the TV channel and the productivity of its journalists, who can now allocate more time and resources to improving TV content and expanding the national coverage that this channel currently has in Portugal.
