'The Young Pope', Mediapro's new international co-production for television, premieres trailer

Directed by Paolo Sorrentino, it is produced by Wildside and co-produced by Haut et Court TV and Mediapro.

Lenny Belardo, alias Pius XIII, is the first American pope in history. Young and charming, his election may seem the fruit of a simple and effective media strategy by the College of Cardinals.

However, as is well known, appearances can be deceiving. Above all in the place and with the people who have chosen the great mystery of God as the lighthouse that guides their existence. This place is the Vatican and these people are the leaders of the Catholic Church. And the most mysterious and contradictory figure of all turns out to be Pius XIII himself. Astute and naive, old-fashioned and avant-garde, doubtful and determined, ironic, pedantic, hurt and implacable, Pius XIII tries to follow the long path of human loneliness to find a God for humanity. And for himself.

Directed by Paolo Sorrentino, Oscar-winning director, it is a joint production of Sky, HBO and Canal+, which will be broadcast starting in October on Sky Atlantic in the five countries in which this communication group operates (Italy, United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland and Austria), as well as on Canal+ in France.

Joining double Oscar nominee Jude Law in the role of Pius XIII is an international cast consisting of Oscar winner Diane Keaton, Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, Tony Bertorelli and James Cromwell.

The Young Pope is produced by Wildside and co-produced by Haut et Court TV and Mediapro. Executive producers for Wildside are Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani, along with John Lyons.
