The SUMMA3D animation festival pays tribute to Ignacio Pérez Dolset
Students of the U-tad Animation Degree win the second and third prize for Best Animation Character Design.
The third edition of Summa3D, the international competition for 3D animated short films, wanted to pay tribute this year to Ignacio Pérez Dolset who received the award as 'Guest of Honor', from the hands of José Luis Fernández Alegre, director of the competition, who highlighted the figure of the founder of U-tad and Ilion Animation Studios, as well as the milestones to his credit such as the video game saga Commandos or movies like Planet 51.
Specifically, three students from U-tad's Animation Degree won the second and third awards for Best Animation Character Design, which went to Ana Paula Guerra and Andrea Ruiz Jiménez for Anarya (both third year students of Animation) and in María Pareja for Mission Ceres (second year Animation student), respectively. Pilar Hernandez by Bird found won first prize in this category.
For the U-tad students, Ana Paula Guerra and Andrea Ruiz Jiménez, this award represents “an important stimulus to our daily work in the classroom, which adds to the desire to participate in future animation projects the excitement of discovering that our efforts have an echo in the professional world.” María Pareja thinks that this award “drives me to continue enjoying animation knowing that my work is of sufficient quality to be valued by the industry.”
The co-director of the Master of 3D Character Animation at U-tad, Christian Dan Bejarano, won the second prize for Best Short Film Project, for The Sea, which tells the story of an elderly couple who are obsessed with not separating themselves from the sea, and whose passion for the sea hides much more than a simple lifestyle.
"It has been a great honor to receive an award for a project that is still being born. It gives you encouragement and strength to move forward, and the best thing is that I can finally reward in some way the artists behind it." The Sea Artists who are working in a selfless way because they love their profession and have believed in the project,” says Christian Dan.
