Three out of every four mobile lines in Spain have mobile broadband services
Mobile broadband lines exceeded 38 million, 75.2% of the total (50.9 million) mobile lines in Spain.
The National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) in its latest report on the telecommunications market referring to the month of June 2016 highlights that mobile broadband lines exceeded 38 million, 75.2% of the total (50.9 million) mobile lines in Spain. Mobile broadband, a key factor for the distribution of audiovisual content anywhere, added 277,797 new lines in June. To the increase registered in postpaid of 157,199, prepaid was added, with 120,598 more lines. The month closed with a total of 38.2 million mobile lines, 7.3% more than in June 2015.
The exclusive data lines were 1,641,028 and the penetration was 86 lines per 100 inhabitants, 5.6 points more than a year ago.
Almost 85% of voice lines with mobile broadband are concentrated in the three main operators, Movistar, Orange (including Jazztel) and Vodafone (including Ono).
Fixed broadband
Regarding fixed broadband, in the month of June the number increased by 11,410 lines to a total of 13.37 million and a proportion of 28.8 lines per 100 inhabitants compared to 27.7 a year ago.
DSL lines decreased this month (-146,171): 47,443 less for Movistar and 98,728 less for the rest of the operators. On the other hand, HFC lines fell by 6,085 lines.
Finally, the total number of lines with direct fiber to the home (FTTH) exceeded 4 million, with a growth of 163,666 lines in the month. 66.4% of the total FTTH lines correspond to Movistar (2.7 million lines).
Compared to June 2015, the increase of 1.8 million FTTH lines stands out, compared to the loss of 1.5 million lines with DSL technology.
