Based on technologies developed by Vicomtech-IK4, the ETB viewer will be able to choose the data count of a town or city on their screen, access cameras that are not in the general broadcast and connect a telephone, a tablet and/or a personal computer to the television, choosing what information to see on each screen.

During next Sunday's election night, Euskal Telebista will offer extra and personalized content for connected televisions thanks to the support of the Basque technology center Vicomtech-IK4.

The viewer will be able to choose the data count for a town or city on their screen, access cameras that are not in the general broadcast and connect a phone, a tablet and/or a personal computer to the television, choosing what information to see on each screen.

Euskal Irrati Telebista will make an enormous display on 25S to offer the best information on radio, television and the Internet through all possible media. From a technological point of view, the main technological novelty of these EiTB elections will be the possibility of accessing complementary content from “connected televisions” under the HBBTV standard.

Users who press the blue button on their remote control on the night of next Sunday will be able to access extra content such as personalized and instantly updated results graphs, cameras from the political party headquarters at the same time, even if they are not being broadcast on the usual broadcast, activity on social networks... And all of this designed and chosen by the user themselves from their home.

EiTB con Vicomtech

Technology developed by Vicomtech-IK4

In order to offer this service, EiTB has the technological support of Vicomtech-IK4, the Basque technology center based in the Miramón Technology Park. The Basque center, whose co-founder is EiTB itself, is made up of more than a hundred researchers who develop innovative technologies in Computer Graphics, Visual Computing and Multimedia.

The user experience that Basque public television now proposes is based on technologies developed by Vicomtech-IK4 in collaboration with internationally renowned broadcasters such as the BBC, standardization organizations such as W3C for HTML5 and IRT, promoter of the HbbTV standard.

In this framework of collaboration, javascript libraries have been developed with standard technologies when they existed and extending these standards when necessary.

The objective of this technology is to provide the broadcaster with the possibility of developing a single application, with a difficulty comparable to the development of a web page, and that after using the developed libraries, an automatic adaptation of the application to a multi-device context of the user is carried out. As a result, a single user can use multiple screens to view content and configure content the way they want on each device.

The three great challenges that the development of these libraries addresses are multi-device adaptation, synchronization of the experience across multiple screens and the discovery of new devices and their association with the user.
