The LTE-Broadcast Alliance and the Innovation Observatory have published a white paper in which they analyze the current and future situation of LTE-Broadcast (eMBMS). With this document, these institutions intend to lay the foundations for device manufacturers under eMBMS to share a common technological base.

The work collects the main conclusions from the first trials and deployments around the world and includes examples such as Verizon's Indycar application, which has been commercially available in the US since April 2016. This application offers live streaming so that users can see what the drivers are seeing.

eMBMS network schemeA market of 14,000 million

LTE-Broadcast or MBMS, was conceived as a set of network technologies and device middleware that between them allow the simultaneous broadcast of content to multiple devices, thus increasing the efficiency with which video and other content can be delivered to multiple users and make better use of network resources. The LTE Broadcast Alliance was formed in April 2016 with Verizon, Telstra, kt and EE. In the last year, new companies such as Ericsson, Expway, HKT and CSL Mobile, Huawei, NETGEAR, Nokia, Smartfren, TIM, and Turkcell have joined the LTE-Broadcast Alliance.

It is estimated that the LTE-Broadcast market could reach $14 billion in 2020, with a customer base of 2 billion users. In addition to generating a revenue stream for service providers, the technology also presents opportunities for content providers, and manufacturers of networking equipment, middleware and chipsets.
