The RTVE Lab experiments with a transmedia project between television reportage and interactive documentary

New technologies make it possible to document what happens anywhere in the world in real time and share it online. War on lies is RTVE's latest transmedia project, which includes a report from the La 2 program On Cover and an interactive documentary from the Webdoc Factory of the RTVE.es Laboratory. It shows a new way of investigating conflicts, even if they occur in distant or inaccessible places: open source research, based on what is published openly on the Internet.

The protagonists of War on lies They are pioneers in this field. With their investigations they are shedding light on the atrocities committed in the Syrian war and other armed conflicts. They put new technologies at the service of human rights to document these atrocities, in order to provide evidence that will allow criminals to be brought to justice.

In this transmedia project, in addition to the television report of On Cover, the viewer can access the interactive documentary on the website of RTVE. The user will be able to face three investigations to discover who is responsible for the violation of human rights in those cases framed in armed conflicts. Thanks to the geolocation of different aerial photographs, experts will help the Internet user to use the best technique to detect the authenticity and location of the images.

Navigation takes the form of a conversation in a collaborative chat in which the user will have to make decisions to advance in the story. In addition, each case is complemented with a test that will test the user's ability to detect the truth.

Likewise, different highly useful links are offered, such as tutorials or a dictionary with basic terms to enter the world of verification and discover some of the best examples of fact checking developed to date.

This project is part of the Webdocs Factory, the line of work led by RTVE.es Lab to strengthen the production of interactive documentaries in our country. The Laboratory has published three webdocs in this last quarter.
