Yamaha Rivage PM-10

Yamaha ProLight+Sound comes to this 2017 with important updates in some of its leading solutions. But the brand's flagship digital mixing system, Rivage PM10, will undoubtedly take center stage with the launch of Yamaha's CS-R10-S control surface, which offers the same features and functions, but compressed, in a space approximately 30% smaller than the CS-R10. This will allow it to be used in space-constrained environments, such as room sound mixing locations in theaters or stageside monitoring.

Rivage PM10 also benefits from the new HY256-TL-SMF TWINLANe card, which supports single-mode fiber optics, and the firmware update to version 1.5, which includes a plug-in for Eventide's H3000 Live Ultra-Harmonizer and up to 64 channels for Dan Dugan Sound Design's auto-mix functionality.

This functionality is also the protagonist in the firmware update to version 3.5 for the TF series of digital mixing consoles, which incorporates up to eight channels for this. This is the first time these features have been included in a mixer in this price range, which also features other incremental improvements.

Another major firmware update, including Dan Dugan auto-mix functionality (this time for the installation industry), is version 3.0 for the MTX3/MTX5-D and MRX7-D processors. Additionally, AES67 support will be implemented this summer.

Yamaha Rivage PM10 Versatility

At ProLight+Sound 2017 Yamaha has announced a new control surface, a TWINLANe card and a firmware update that further enhance the performance of Yamaha's prestigious Rivage PM10 digital mixing system.

For space-constrained environments, the CS-R10-S control surface is 30% smaller than the current CS-R10, but with the same features and highlights. The dual console feature allows two CS-R10 and/or CS-R10-S control surfaces to be connected to a single DSP-R10 engine. This makes it possible to use separate CS-R10-S control surfaces in the room and monitor positions, or use a CS-R10-S as a secondary unit to a CS-R10, for example.

The HY256-TL-SMF is a TWINLANe card that supports single-mode fiber optics. Yamaha's TWINLANe audio network, which has capacity for up to 400 channels, until now only supported multimode fiber connections. The HY256-TL-SMF expands the system's connection flexibility by being compatible with single-mode fiber connections.

In addition to supporting new system components, the new firmware update to version 1.5 for Rivage PM10 includes a plug-in for Eventide's H3000 Live Ultra-Harmonizer and Dan Dugan Sound Design's auto-mix functionality. The original Eventide H3000 Ultra-Harmonizer processor delivers outstanding effects quality that has made it a long-time favorite of engineers and musicians. The newly developed plug-in for H3000 Live offers the same features optimized for live sound applications.

Dan Dugan Sound Design's Auto Mixer Plug-in allows you to automatically adjust the gain of up to 64 vocal microphones in real time, with a subtlety and natural balance that would normally require multiple operators. Additionally, it eliminates feedback and blending filter effects, freeing the engineer to deal with numerous faders in complex unscripted conversation situations.

"Users of this high-end console series will be delighted with the Dugan Speech System's large number of channels. We offer five groups, so processing can be divided into no less than five independent automatic mixing consoles," says Dan Dugan, CEO of Dan Dugan Sound Design.

“The new components of the Rivage PM10 system have been created to be used in environments where there are space limitations or where it is necessary to adapt to existing infrastructure,” adds Yoshi Tsugawa, director of the Yamaha Pro Audio business unit. "The firmware update to version 1.5, meanwhile, focuses on the most important aspect of the system: its sound. Collaboration with Eventide and Dan Dugan Sound Design has resulted in two plug-ins that offer significant sound benefits. In addition, a new analog delay and other Yamaha plug-ins have been added to expand the palette of sound shaping tools that we sincerely hope our users experience firsthand," adds Tsugawa.

Yamaha TF Mixer

Automatic mixing in TF

The new firmware update for the TF series of digital mixing consoles will include the popular Dan Dugan automatic mixing enjoyed by high-end consoles. The TF series features extremely easy operation thanks to its advanced TouchFlow Operation touch panel interface, which has become popular among a wide variety of users for all types of applications. Ease of use makes this TF series the ideal choice for beginners and veteran engineers alike, providing professional-quality sound and mixing capabilities.

Developed in cooperation with Dan Dugan Sound Design, the automatic microphone mixing technology built into the version 3.5 firmware is integrated into mixers in this price range for the first time. This will significantly increase the appeal of the already affordable TF series for conferences, corporate events, houses of worship and many other situations where multiple microphones are used.

Dugan Auto Mixing can be applied to up to eight channels of any of the TF Series mixers, including the TF-RACK. This feature automatically increases the input gain of the active microphone, reduces that of the inactive microphones, and adjusts all of them to create a uniform overall mix level. This eliminates the complexity of managing faders during multi-mic presentations or panel discussions where even more faders may be needed. The advanced Dugan automatic mixing algorithm also maintains a safe feedback margin to ensure high quality and clear sound at all times.

Dan Dugan highlights that “the incorporation of the Dugan Speech System automatic mixing console functionality to the TF series gives these devices a solid advantage in all applications in which several people speak, such as conferences, theater performances with wireless microphones, board rooms, session rooms, political debates, sports gatherings, news programs, television contests, reality shows, houses of worship or teleconferences.”
For his part, Yoshi Tsugawa, highlights that "the TF series has developed significantly with each firmware update. Version 2.5 added output and matrix delays, version 3.0 brought improved security features and version 3.1 implemented AES67 support. Now, with version 3.5, we are delighted to offer Dugan automatic mixing, a functionality that elevates the TF series to a higher level of versatility and performance."
