Genelec launches “The Ones”, the world's smallest three-way coaxial monitors
Designed for mixing rooms, the coaxial design of the new 8331 and 8341 monitors enables ultra-close listening at distances of just 40 centimeters without losing precision.
Following the popular 8351, Genelec is now launching the new 8331 and 8341, the world's smallest three-way coaxial near-field monitors. Recently introduced to a select audience at London's Metropolis studios, the 8331 and 8341 are built in enclosures no larger than Genelec's traditional 8030 and 8040 two-way monitors, eliminating the previous limitations of typical coaxial point source designs.
Intended for precision listening, the point source corrects for off-axis coloration associated with traditional designs, giving the user more freedom of movement rather than confining them to a narrow listening point. But point sources have shown their own set of limitations in combination with coaxial designs, including limited frequency response, low SPL, and uneven dispersion. Now Thanks to Genelec's MDCTM (Minimum Diffraction Coaxial) technology, we new The Ones They eliminate these problems to create the Ultimate Point Source.
They provide accurate imaging both on and off-axis, along with absolutely neutral reproduction, allowing users to make mixing decisions with confidence while listening longer. The impressive generation of a natural sound image means that listening fatigue is a fraction of that experienced with other systems. Additionally, Genelec's famous Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) is combined with the unrivaled precision of the two hidden woofer design, resulting in less colored reflections.
Like the 8351, both the 8331 and 8341 can be installed horizontally or vertically, using the adjustable IsoPod isolation base, without compromising performance, and offering maximum flexibility to adapt to even the tightest work environments. But while the 8331 and 8341 are heirs in form and function to the 8351, the new models have been entirely redesigned to overcome the challenges of their ultra-compact dimensions (just 299mm x 189mm x 212mm for the 8331, and 350mm x 237mm x 243mm for the 8341).
Innovations include a motor assembly that encompasses mids and highs sharing the same compact magnet core, reducing size and weight without reducing response. The unique coaxial midrange cone is now made up of concentric sections, optimizing the linearity of the mid frequencies, which is also aided by the DCW wave control guide that spans the entire front of the cabinet. Despite the small size of the 8331 and 8341, each unit incorporates three dedicated Class D amplification stages, developed by Genelec, including the Intelligent Signal Detection System (ISS) for energy savings.
The maximum short-term output capability of these new monitors is 104 dB SPL for the 8331 (at 1m), and 110 dB SPL for the 8341 (at 1m). With a frequency accuracy greater than ±1.5 dB, and responses that start respectively at 38 Hz and 45 Hz (-6 dB), both monitors extend beyond 40 kHz, both on the analog and digital inputs.
Ultra close listening
The coaxial design enables ultra-close listening, generating an impressive improvement in the relationship between direct and reverberant sound, which further reduces the influence of the room on listening. It can be heard from a distance of only 40 cm. without losing precision. At a distance of 50 cm. The maximum SPL capacity is increased by more than 5 dB.
Finally, with The Ones, the Ultimate Point Source also benefits from the ultimate flexibility of SAM (Smart Active Monitoring), Genelec's revolutionary technology based on GLM 2.0 (Genelec Loudspeaker Manager) software for PC and Mac, which incorporates the AutoCal algorithm.
With SAM, The Ones They take their place in Genelec's wide range of smart monitors, all of which can be used to create, on a single network of up to 40 monitors and subwoofers, configurations that can be loaded instantly and range from a traditional stereo system to an immersive audio system. GLM easily creates optimal monitor systems even in demanding environments, automatically compensating for negative room influence through level calibration, distance compensation, phase and room equalization, to create a consistent and optimized listening environment.
Genelec CEO Siamäk Naghian says, "The number of big ideas contained within these small monitors is truly extraordinary, but no list of features can compare simply to the experience of listening to them. For professionals around the world, the 8351 has already become a trusted standard for its neutrality, and its frequency response both on and off-axis. Now, that same precision and 3-way performance is available to everyone. With the 8331 and the 8341, the size of your studio is no longer a barrier to the size of your ambition.”
