The new season of 'Vis a vis' will be produced by Fox Networks Group Spain and Globomedia
In this way, the series that successfully closed its life cycle on free-to-air television on Antena 3 in 2016, now embarks on a new stage in payment with the help of Fox Networks Group (FNG) Spain, which will co-produce the new chapters with Globomedia.
The series achieved great success from critics, awards and audiences during its free-to-air broadcast on Antena 3. Currently, the prison thriller has a relevant community of followers eager to know what will happen to the prisoners held in Cruz del Sur. This desire will now come true thanks to the commitment between the three companies to premiere new episodes of the series exclusively on Fox during the first half of 2018. This agreement includes the rights in Spain and Portugal for Fox Network Group. This season will be led by Iván Escobar as showrunner of the series and creator of the first two installments.
The third season of Dream a Dream It is the first foray into FNG Spain's own fiction production. The company had already embarked on local projects for the FOX Life channel with titles such as I do eat o Fit Life, but he had long cherished the desire to jump to the fiction side with FOX, number one in the audience ranking in pay television and a reference channel for fiction entertainment in Spain, where he has been responsible for the premiere of titles of global relevance such as The Walking Dead, Prison Break, Homeland, American Horror Story, Expediente X, The Americans, Anatomía de Grey, Perdidos, House, all of them a guarantee of success and quality and that fit very well with the narrative style of Dream a Dream.
New exploitation models
For Atresmedia, this operation represents the consolidation of the new phase of its exploitation model for its series. In this way, the audiovisual group manages to extend the life cycle of one of the most valued products of its Series Atresmedia label.
Dream a Dream It was born from the successful relationship between Atresmedia and Globomedia, premiering in 2015 in prime time on Antena 3. The network was the perfect launching platform for this series, which garnered more than three million viewers on average during its broadcast. Both Companies were then betting on this very risky and different fiction. Quite a leap for Spanish fiction. Thanks to this success, Dream a Dream It has become a brand beyond television production with a high capacity to build loyalty.
Performed by a group of actresses in a state of grace, including Maggie Civantos, Najwa Nimri, Berta Vázquez, Alba Flores, Cristina Plazas, Inma Cuevas, María Isabel Díaz Lago, Marta Aledo and Laura Baena, the series narrates the complicated coexistence of a heterogeneous group of women inside a prison. Most of the performers from the original series will participate in this new installment, including all the actresses mentioned.
Furthermore, the impact generated has consolidated Dream a Dream in an exceptional viral phenomenon, which has gone beyond the small screen and has spread through social networks thanks to what is already known as Marea Amarilla, where fans have shown their passion for this fiction.
"We are very satisfied with the agreement reached with Atresmedia and Mediapro. The project makes our desire to produce fiction in Spain a reality, which we have reiterated repeatedly, but which needed to have the right project and allies. 'Vis a Vis' is the perfect choice due to its high quality and because it perfectly adapts to the standards of our international content. Likewise, we are especially pleased to contribute to repairing that gap claimed by the audience and, in particular, by that yellow tide that has so supported the continuity of the series," commented Daniel Pérez, general director of FNG Spain.
For her part, Vera Pereira, executive vice president of FNG Iberia, defends that “the step we take with Dream a Dream "It represents a strategic move for our operation in the Iberian Peninsula because it will reinforce our leadership position in pay television entertainment in Spain and will give us greater visibility and relevance in the local market with a determined commitment to our own content and talent."
Javier Bardají, general director of Atresmedia Televisión, recognizes that for us, Dream to dream It has been and will be one of our original series of which we are and will be most proud and that best represents our fictional model. At Atremedia we are now in a new stage in which we want to optimize the exploitation of our major fiction brands beyond conventional content sales and distribution systems, also opening the door to new forms of production with the main agents around the world."
Sonia Martínez, director of Fiction at Atresmedia, has been satisfied with this agreement: "we have always looked for the best for this series. 'Vis a vis' concluded its cycle on free-to-air television and I am happy that it can now continue on pay television; it is great news that its fans will surely receive very positively and that is made possible thanks to the operation between these three companies."
"We could not have found a better partner to face the third season of 'Vis a Vis', and through a very innovative formula within the Spanish market: two leaders in the sector share leadership in production to give continuity to a series that is a benchmark in Spain and with a long international run. We are being consistent with our strategy of betting on talent, quality projects with international distribution," said Javier Méndez, head of Content for the Mediapro group.
“Creo que en pocas ocasiones ha habido un movimiento (en este caso una marea amarilla) tan grande de fans reclamando la continuidad de una historia. En Globomedia estamos encantados con este acuerdo Fox&Mediapro que nos permitirá volver a reunir al principal talento que dio identidad y sentido a Dream a Dream”, explained Javier Pons, general director of Globomedia.
