Barlovento Comunicación compiles in a report some of the most relevant television milestones of the broadcast of the Barcelona Olympic Games.

These days mark 25 years since the Olympic Games were held in Barcelona. Windward Communication has compiled in a report some of the most relevant television milestones of Barcelona'92.

The special programming on Spanish Television on the occasion of the Games between July 25 and August 9 (2,860 broadcasts) reached a share of 28.3%, with 31,324,000 contacts and 87.2% of the population.

The opening ceremony broadcast on La 2 on July 25 was followed by 5,957,000 viewers, with a share of 62.4%. This day the network achieved its best historical result with 39.3% share.
The opening was the most watched broadcast of the Games and has been the most watched opening ceremony of any edition (London 2012 received 5,656,000 viewers in Spain).

The spectacular lighting of the cauldron in the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium by Antonio Rebollo at 10:40 p.m. was the golden minute with a share of 64.9% (6,811,000 spectators). The Olympic Channel (an initiative of Televisión Española and Televisió de Catalunya that operated as a host broadcaster commissioned by the International Olympic Committee) deployed a total of 47 cameras at the opening and throughout the Olympics the most cutting-edge audiovisual technology of the moment was premiered.

As for the closing that took place on August 9, 1992, it attracted 5,813,000 viewers, with a screen share on La 1 at 57.9%.

The good results of the Spanish Olympians, who won 13 gold medals, 7 silver and 2 bronze, made thousands of spectators closely follow all days of the Games. The ADO Plan, developed between 1988 and 1992, involved an investment of 79 million euros that allowed Spanish athletes to win 22 medals.

The most watched sports broadcast was the men's soccer final won by the Spanish National Team, followed by 3,778,000 viewers (54.2%). They are followed by the silver obtained by Antonio Peñalver with an audience of 2,735,000 viewers (31.8%); judo -57 kg (gold from Miriam Blasco) with 27.1% share (2.39 million) and judo -52 kg. (Almudena Muñoz gold) 27.5% 2.25 million; track cycling (21.6% 2.25 million); and swimming (41.2% 2.23 million).

Sailing is the sport that contributed the most medals to the Spanish medal table. TVE carried out 79 broadcasts of this sport and 48.2% of Spaniards watched at least one minute of some event. Sailing reaped an average share of 21.5%.
