Fourteen short films will compete at the International Meeting of Film Students in San Sebastián

The XVI edition of the Meeting, which will be held between September 25 and 29 within the framework of the San Sebastian Film Festival, will host master classes by Raymond Depardon and Claudine Nougaret, Todd Haynes and Christine Vachon, Marine Francen, Nobuhiro Suwa and José Luis Torres Leiva, who will also chair the jury.

The XVI International Meeting of Film Students, which will be held from September 25 to 29, within the framework of the 65th edition of the San Sebastian Festival, has selected, among the 209 works presented by 110 schools from 45 countries, fourteen short films from Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, the United States, France, Israel, Mexico, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Russia.

The Meeting, organized by the San Sebastián Festival and Tabakalera – International Center for Contemporary Culture, aims to publicize the works of students from film schools around the world, the next generation of filmmakers. This year, the section grows in duration - it adds one more day, extending into five days - and in ambition, as a strong commitment by its organizers and with an suggestive program of activities, which will welcome the visit of prominent professionals from the film industry who present their films in San Sebastián: Todd Haynes and Christine Vachon (Wonderstruck in Pearls), Raymond Depardon and Claudine Nougaret (12 days / 12 Days in Zabaltegi-Tabakalera), José Luis Torres Leiva (Ana's dream in Zabaltegi-Tabakalera), in Marine France (The Sower in New Directors) and Nobuhiro Suwa (The lion died tonight / The Lion Sleeps Tonight in Official Section). The Chilean filmmaker will also serve as president of the Jury of the XVI International Meeting of Film Students.

Both the screenings of the selected short films and the master classes will take place in the Tabakalera movie theater. The masterclasses, which will include screenings of the filmmakers' works and conversations with the film's team, are sessions reserved for students and a limited number of viewers, who can register on the Tabakalera website, and Festival accredited, who will access through invitations, while tickets for the different short film showings can be purchased through the usual sales channels of the San Sebastián Festival.

“The San Sebastián Festival maintains an editorial commitment to new talents in which the International Meeting of Film Students is one of its cornerstones,” commented the director of the San Sebastián Festival, José Luis Rebordinos.

The cultural director of Tabakalera, Ane Rodríguez Armendariz, has stressed the importance of projects like this being developed within the framework of an event like the Festival and in the context of a center like Tabakalera, whose cultural project is “firmly committed to new creators.”

A jury made up of students, chaired by a professor and selected by Orona Fundazioa will award the Orona Prize worth 5,000 euros.

In addition, a specific jury, made up of students from the participating schools and chaired by the Chilean filmmaker José Luis Torres Leiva, will decide which director to award the Panavision Prize, which consists of the transfer of complete equipment of a RED Epic camera and standard Primo lenses for four weeks of filming, or a credit of 10,000 euros to rent any Panavision material.
