The company will showcase its virtualized channel-in-a-box, web-based monitoring and management tool Lighthouse, and workflow engine Beluga.

Pebble Beach will present at IBC 2017 its latest range of solutions, including: the launch of multiple virtualized channels in both a public and private cloud with Orca; Lighthouse, the web-based remote monitoring and management tool for the Marine automation system; and Beluga, a new video processing, content management and workflow engine solution.

IBC attendees will be able to watch live the launch and hosting of multiple channels in the public or private cloud, using Orca, Pebble's virtualized playout solution that works under the Marina automation control system. The ability to deploy new channels in minutes at low cost makes Pebble's public cloud solution especially suited for event-based channels, pop-ups, full disaster recovery applications, and any instance where deployment agility is required.

DMC, a Dutch company offering cloud computing-based software distribution and logistics services to content owners, media companies and studios, recently announced the launch of its innovative all-IP virtualized playout platform, based on Pebble's Orca system. DMC's fully virtualized, software-defined 'private broadcast cloud' sets a step-change in industry innovation and enables its customers to benefit from the agility and flexibility of an all-IP world.

Housed in DMC's renovated network operations, media management and distribution facilities in Amsterdam, the platform offers international content owners access to 700 million European viewers. The platform, which currently delivers 30 channels, will be used by more than 80 channels in Europe from September 1, 2017, following the full migration of the remaining channels from the former DMC facilities. The all-IP architecture allows DMC to commission and deliver new channels to the market faster than ever, “in a matter of hours instead of weeks”, and with the potential to reduce to minutes

In recognition of their pioneering vision and technical competence, DMC and its technology partners have been shortlisted for the prestigious IBC Innovation Award in the Content Distribution category. The category winner will be announced on Sunday, September 17 at 18:30 CET at the RAI Auditorium.

Lighthouse

Remote monitoring and management

Lighthouse for Marine Automation system now includes new Channel Design and Implementation Tools

Lighthouse is a web-based remote monitoring and management panel for the Marina automation environment, extending Marina functionality to business users, operational staff and engineers, both inside and outside the broadcast facility. As Pebble's product portfolio expands into the virtual world, Lighthouse offers a series of interfaces that offer configuration and deployment functionality for Orca virtual channels. Using new design and deployment tools, Lighthouse users can quickly and easily design, edit, launch, and uninstall IP virtual channels on the fly.

It offers control, monitoring, media management and system configuration tools through a series of widgets on configurable web-based dashboards, with the ability to aggregate data across multiple sites.

Modern playout workflows require agile and responsive interaction methods at any time of the day or night. Lighthouse extends staff reach with standard browser interfaces, so status and corrective actions are just seconds away, even outside the control room. For users with control privileges, accessing and controlling a channel from anywhere with Lighthouse ensures unattended, secure, and worry-free operations for senior staff.

Beluga

Developed in partnership with Blue Lucy, Beluga is a new video processing, content management and workflow engine solution that integrates closely with Pebble's Marine automation system. It offers file delivery, content preparation and workflows with integrated QC, without the need to implement an enterprise MAM solution.

Beluga's content management approach focuses on the tasks of preparing content for playout and distribution. Reviewing segmentation, program content, enabling conformance editing, comprehensive quality assurance, and reporting are all essential steps throughout the playout flow. Beluga also adds transcoding and proxy creation to the Marina toolset. As the number of users grows, Beluga's simple web interface allows teams to dynamically interact with media without having to install dedicated client software.
