Pedro Mier: “the digital transformation has only just begun”
The president of AMETIC highlights at the inauguration of the 31st Meeting of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications held in Santander that "innovation has become the only effective competitive strategy."
Pedro Mier, who in his capacity as president of AMETIC faces the traditional meeting of the technology sector in Santander for the first time, has addressed a presentation in which, above all, he wanted to make it clear that “we all count” in this process of digital transformation, a transversal phenomenon that affects all productive sectors, public administrations and, therefore, society as a whole. His intervention took place in the presence of the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Digital Agenda, Alvaro Nadal, who moments before inaugurated the meeting, the 31st Meeting of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications organized by AMETIC itself.
Mier, after highlighting that “AMETIC is the employers' association that represents the Spanish Digital Industry”, has vindicated its role in the digital transformation, “a revolution that has only just begun”, he assured, emphasizing that “the challenge, opportunities and risks for the entire society are of enormous dimensions”.
The president of AMETIC has given quite a few headlines in his speech, for example, he has stated that “innovation has become the only effective competitive strategy”, and has attributed the emergence and growth of new companies to it. And along those lines, he has advocated “promoting and enhancing disruptive innovations.”
To boost the export industry, Pedro Mier has given as an example of what Spain needs, the German model with its mittelstand (powerful medium-sized companies, global leaders in their specialty), calling for the growth and specialization of our companies, as well as for creating favorable circumstances for reindustrialization.
New stage
In the last part of his speech he looked inward, ensuring that the Spanish digital industry (“the mittelstand of our country”) and the global digital native leaders are in AMETIC. “Our greatest strength is our track record,” he assured. And it has highlighted the values of the organization: collaboration, representativeness, consensus, transparency, innovation, quality and independence.
"In our founding spirit are the entrepreneurs of 40 years ago. The creative impulse and independence are in our genes." As pillars on which AMETIC's strategy is based, it has highlighted experience, innovation, talent development and territoriality.
In the words of its president, AMETIC integrates, represents and defends the aspirations of Spanish digital industries of all sizes, in all areas and in all forums. “We help promote and encourage our companies to be leading actors in the global digitalization process, for which it is necessary to propose and lead large national driving projects.”
Finally, Pedro Mier has advocated for “a first division digital country where all companies count.” He has also alluded to the generation of employment that the digital industry can and should create and the training necessary to cover the different profiles that the digital revolution demands.
"In the digital transformation of society we all count. At AMETIC, we all count," he concluded.
