NEP Switzerland and Broadcast Solutions design UPC's new 4K UHD studios and playout center

UPC launches MySports, a new sports channel that has two studios, one of them remote, and a new playout center.

MySports

The Swiss cable provider UPC, coinciding with the launch of its new sports channel MySports, commissioned NEP Switzerland design and execute its new 4K UHD facilities consisting of a new playout center, a studio and a remote studio. With all facilities coupled using a dedicated 100 GigE Fiber network, the studio and playout center is located in Zurich, while the remote studio is located in Rosssens, in the French-speaking region of Switzerland.

The German integrator Broadcast Solutions He has been in charge of the planning and installation of all the broadcasting and IT infrastructure as well as the production furniture.

Reto Osterwalder, general director of NEP Switzerland, comments that "with these new facilities, which are very demanding, we are launching the most modern transmission infrastructure in Switzerland. To carry out this project, we were looking for a partner that would meet our high expectations and Broadcast Solutions was the perfect choice. We know their excellent work from previous projects and the launch of the channel has been perfect."

Together with two 4K UHD mobile units, also designed and delivered by Broadcast Solutions, NEP Switzerland can now offer complete Ultra High Definition production, studio and playout available to its client clients.

MySports will, for example, produce all ice hockey games as multilingual programs with a minimum of two languages. Therefore the studio in Zürich will cover the German and Italian signals while the remote studio in Rossens will produce the French programme. Both studios are constructed identically with the Rossens studio controlled remotely from the Zurich studio. The Zurich playout center will work with around twenty live channels, of which four are 24/7 and two channels already broadcast in 4K UHD.

The new facilities were used for the first time this month for the broadcast of the Swiss ice hockey and handball leagues.
