This is the new 4K UHD mobile unit from NEP Switzerland integrated by Broadcast Solutions

The UM UHD 42, which is being used to broadcast the main matches of the Swiss Super League (RSL), integrates solutions from EVS, Grass Valley, Imagine Communications, Lawo, NEP, Riedel, NEC, AJA, Axon and Genelec, among other manufacturers.

NEP Switzerland has just released its second 4K UHD mobile unit, again conceived and delivered by the German integrator Broadcast Solutions. The Swiss company doubled its 4K production resources to serve the 2017/2018 Swiss Super League (RSL) season. The UM UHD 42 is being used in the 4K UHD production of the main matches of the main Swiss league. Like the previous mobile unit, the UM 42 is based on the Streamline Solutions family of units designed by Broadcast Solutions. This is the latest example of the Alphaline model, a variant of the Vans Streamline OB. This Alphaline OB Van offers two production areas and supports up to 10 camera productions, making use of more freedom so that the client can choose the way of working and the equipment.

After its debut in the production of a major athletics event, the unit has been used since the beginning of the Swiss Raiffeisen Super League. NEP Switzerland plans to produce more than 140 matches in 4K UHD this season, all broadcast on the pay channel Teleclub Sports.

The UM UHD 42 offers up to 23 spacious workstations and excels with two production areas and large slomo areas, plus additional VIP areas for producers, presenters and guests with additional monitors. The truck offers seven work areas.

Thanks to the experience we have gained as a team by producing the last season in 4K, our modern new 4K / UHD Mobile Unit and our excellent infrastructure, allows us to capture the atmosphere of the matches with perfect images and deliver it to viewers, reliably, every match day."

The unit is designed as a full-size trailer with a single large extension and can operate up to 10 4K/UHD cameras. NEP Switzerland opted for LDX 86N cameras from Grass Valley, which offer native 4K signals, along with the lenses Canon. A Grass Valley Karrera K-Frame with 8 M/E is used as a mixer. The heart of the audio section is a console Theirs mc256 with 48 channels, as well as a Lawo Nova73 Compact router. Four EVS XT 4K are available to offer instant replays of the best plays and match summaries with maximum reliability.

The truck has two separate production areas. Besides. While most 4K UHD television productions currently use a Square Division configuration (where the image is divided into four quadrants), the UM UHD 42 uses a Two-Sample Interleave (2SI) format (4x 3G-SDI, with images in quarter resolution). The format used offers advantages in handling additional HD signals, produced simultaneously for all Swiss Super League matches. For example, intercom signals are carried with high-definition signals, as many of the ultra-high-definition channels are already required for the production of trilingual broadcast commentary.
