Broadcast Solutions integrates Apantac's KVM over IP system into Studio Berlin's new mobile unit

The new mobile unit Studio Berlin, Ü10, has a wide deployment of the KVM over IP system of Apantac, which has been installed by Broadcast Solutions.

The Over 10 It's the last big bet Studio Berlin in the field of UHD mobile units. The vehicle stands out especially for a new concept when it comes to space distribution, since this separates the production area with technology area. That is, instead of installing all the hardware racks in the mobile unit, they are transported in a support vehicle. Another notable element of the new Studio Berlin mobile unit has been the implementation of a system KVM over IP of Apantac. Broadcast Solutions Produkte & Service, a subsidiary of Broadcast Solutions and German distributor of Apantac's KVM and multiviewer solutions, oversaw the implementation together with the Broadcast Solutions project team.

The Over 10 includes 26 workstations and a total of 39 computers with 25 user workstations connected through Apantac's KVM over IP system, which offers switching time between computers of just two seconds. Although in small installations the KVM over IP Tx and Rx units (transmitter and receiver) can be connected via point-to-point, in the case of Studio Berlin the modules are connected to two switches, which are separated into the OB van and support van and connected via four redundant 10G trunks. In addition to KVM functionalities, Apantac KVM over IP systems can also be used to create monitor walls and multiviewers.

Apantac KVM over IP solutions support routing or switching video, keyboard and mouse (HID), USB 2.0, audio (analog/embedded), RS-232 e AND. The quality of the image processing, according to Broadcast Solutions, “has proven to be excellent”, even when playing full-screen video at the maximum frame rate, achieving a latency of less than 17 ms. The transmitters and receivers operate with video over IP and offer wide connectivity options (DVI, HDMI, VGA) and formats. There are several models HD y 4K available, both as independent transmitters and receivers, and some have support POE.

Matthias Alexandru, technical director of Studio Berlin, considers that Apantac's new KVM system provides them with “enormous room for maneuver” and a configuration that is “easy and quick to manage.” On the other hand, Thomas Tang, president of Apantac, is proud that his company's solutions provide solutions “that can improve agility and flexibility for both our customers and theirs.”
