Coinciding with this announcement, Vimeo reveals what will be its platform for streaming live events Vimeo Live, which aims to compete with YouTue and Facenook Live.

Vimeo Live

Vimeo has announced the purchase of the live streaming platform Livestream while announcing what will be Vimeo Live, a service with which it intends to compete directly with YouTube and Facebook.

The new platform allows content to be transmitted in Full HD (1080p), and includes the incorporation of transcoding and adaptive streaming in the cloud. But the most attractive thing is that it offers distribution and marketing tools, with the option of integrating a completely customizable player, and the possibility of viewing playback statistics. The content can be followed en masse or exclusively for the group of users chosen by the “producer” user.

As was already the case in Livestream, Vimeo Live will allow users to broadcast live from anywhere, archiving it automatically once the event is over. In addition, as is customary in this type of formats, the videos will include a chat sidebar, which will allow content creators to interact with their audience. A diferencia de otros servicios similares, Vimeo Live será un servicio de pago con diferentes planes que van desde los 75 dólares al mes.
Anjali Sud, CEO of Vimeo, notes that “live streaming was the number one request from our community of content creators this year, and we are focused on bringing a new level of quality to this ever-evolving medium.”

Once the purchase operation is closed, Vimeo live will be integrated into the main Livestream platform, although it will initially operate as an independent service, without support for mobile devices at the moment.

Livestream currently broadcasts more than 10 million events a year, and has more than 10,000 paying subscribers and almost 50 million users.
