China leads the penetration of Ultra High Definition 4K
While the increase in sales of 4K televisions of 40” and larger inches are growing by over 50% in the United States and Europe, in China this figure rises to 66%.
Paul Gray, Research Director at IHS Markit, has been carried out in the 4K Summit 2017, which will be held in Malaga from November 8 to 10, a detailed x-ray of the 4K situation around the world, highlighting that China is prominently leading the penetration of Ultra High Definition. While the increase in sales of 4K televisions of 40" and more inches are growing by over 50% in the United States and Europe, in China this figure rises to 66%. Chinese consumers who opt for large formats will benefit from a gradual drop in prices that will lead to reaching figures that will exceed 50 million units in 2021. North America will be the second largest market in sales of 4K screens in 2021 with more than 30 million units, compared to 19 million in Western Europe.
On the other hand, he highlighted that in markets such as China, North America or Europe in the next year it will be difficult to buy a 50-inch or larger screen without 4K resolution. But, curiously, the countries with the most commercial or pilot 4K production and services are the ones with the least penetration of 4K televisions, while those in which 4K is nothing more than an acronym are the territories in which a considerable number of UHD screens are already being sold. Gray predicts this trend will reverse over the next two to three years.
