The author of the report Richard Cooper assures that there are only about 400 titles available in UHD across various platforms and formats, although the “vast majority” of these have simply been upscaled to 4K. More than half of these titles have been released by just two studios, Paramount and Sony.

Regarding physical distribution, IHS highlights that there are only thirty titles in Ultra High Definition.

The report highlights that Ultrafix, an online VoD service in the US, has the largest number of UHD titles (229), but again they are almost all scaled versions and, for the most part, little-known titles.

Given this situation, IHS draws attention to the underuse of UHD televisions, ensuring that unless this situation is resolved, UHD could suffer the same fate as 3D when the increase in the number of televisions prepared to receive 3D was not accompanied by a thriving number of stereoscopic productions.
