AEC demands the equalization of copyrights of cinematographers
Although Spanish law provides cinematographers with recognition of co-authorship for the purposes of the Spanishness of the work, it does not extend to the economic rights that other authors are guaranteed.
The filming process of a film or audiovisual work begins with the work of the director of photography who contributes his creativity and technique when selecting the equipment that can provide greater image quality, light and atmosphere to the final result of the cinematographic work.
Currently, Spanish law provides recognition of co-authorship for the purposes of the Spanishness of the work, but it does not extend to the economic rights that other authors are guaranteed.
The Spanish Association of Authors of Cinematographic Photographic Works (AEC), in compliance with the purposes established in its statutes, works to “elevate, develop and protect the sector of Directors of Photography as authors of cinematographic and audiovisual photography, defending the cultural, professional and ethical principles of its members and collaborating with the collective management entities of copyright or related rights, for their correct management.”
This association brings together active Spanish cinematographers and is part of the European Federation of Cinematographers (IMAGO) which brings together 52 associations from around the world and more than 7,000 professionals.
From this area, the active members of AEC are internationally recognized for their creative and executive work and the association permanently works so that, as happens in other member countries, in Spain the economic rights of these professionals as authors of the photography of audiovisual works are recognized. “If there is no photography, there is no film,” says Andrés Torres, President of AEC.
With this hot debate and the industry as a generator of the technology required by cinematographers, the first edition of the AEC Spain MicroSalon will be held in Madrid, a meeting point for professionals and the film production industry, which will take place at the headquarters of ECAM, School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid, next December 15 and 16.
The AEC is a professional association founded on February 20, 1993 and made up of directors of photography whose work is disseminated as co-authors of audiovisual works. Likewise, it promotes communications between its group and other professionals, associations and national and international institutions in its sector.
