Triumphal night for cinema supported by RTVE with twenty-one Goya Awards

'The Bookstore', the film directed by Isabel Coixet, achieves the two main awards and the one for best adapted screenplay. 'Handía' sweeps the number of awards and wins ten statuettes.

RTVE's support for Spanish cinema has received the highest recognition from the Film Academy, which has awarded twenty-one Goya Awards to seven films participated in by the Corporation.

The bookstore, by Isabel Coixet, closed the night as the big winner by winning the awards for best film, direction and adapted screenplay, while Handia He has swept the number of statuettes, with ten “big heads”.

The film directed by Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño has won ten of the 13 awards it was up for: breakthrough actor (Eneko Sagardoy), original script, production direction, photography, editing, artistic direction, costume design, makeup and hair, special effects and original music.

RTVE thus closes a great season of film awards that respond to the commitment of the Corporation, the audiovisual group that broadcasts the most Spanish cinema (650 films in 2017, a historical record) and the one that participates in the largest number of projects, a fundamental support for both established directors and new talents.

Carla Simón's debut film, Summer 1993, has won the Goya for best new director, and two more awards for its performers: revelation actress for Bruna Cusí and supporting actor for David Verdaguer.

The author, by Manuel Martín Cuenca, wins the statuettes for best leading actor for Javier Gutiérrez and best supporting actress for Adelfa Calvo. Veronica, by Paco Plaza, takes the award for best sound. And Leiva has won the Goya for best song for the main theme of The Call.

Finally, a fantastic woman, by Sebastián Lelio, is the best Ibero-American film for the Film Academy and continues its triumphant race towards the Oscars, where it hopes to be crowned the best non-English language film.
