SundanceTv announces the fifth edition of the SundanceTv Shorts short competition
The Grand Jury Prize-winning short will air internationally on SundanceTV and during the Sundance Film Festival: London in June. Movistar+, Fotogramas and the ALMA Screenwriters Union once again join SundanceTV as collaborators of the contest.
The television channel SundanceTV presents, for the fifth consecutive year, the contest SundanceTV Shorts 2018, a contest that rewards the most brilliant short films internationally. The Grand Jury Prize-winning short will air internationally on SundanceTV and during the Sundance Film Festival: London, which runs this year from May 31 to June 3. Once again, Movistar+, Fotogramas and the ALMA Screenwriters Union join SundanceTV and Sundance Institute as collaborators of the contest and as members of the jury.
In Spain, the contest once again includes the Best Web Series category, an exclusive section for our country that rewards the best fiction made for the Internet. To do this, the contestants will have to present the pilot episode of their digital series.
According to Geraud Alazard, Senior Vice President of Marketing at AMC Networks International, "the 2018 SundanceTV Shorts competition perfectly reflects the essence of the channel. It represents the unique energy and passion of SundanceTV in celebrating emerging talent and independent narratives. We are especially excited to collaborate again with the Sundance Institute and greatly appreciate the support of our collaborators Movistar+, ALMA and Fotogramas."
Until April 15 short films and webisodes may be presented on the page www.sundancetv.es/shorts. The works must be sent directly by the producer or director, who must be residents in Spain. Nominations, both short films and pilot episodes of web series, may not exceed 15 minutes in length and must be in English or with English subtitles. All the characteristics and details of the contest, as well as the technical requirements, are available on the official website of the contest.
For Mike Plante, Senior Programmer at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, "the SundanceTV Shorts competition plays an important role in highlighting short films and discovering new filmmakers. It is always a great pleasure to see all the surprising and diverse entries."
The Grand Jury Prize is chosen based on a series of criteria, including creativity, entertainment, narrative and production factors. The jury, chaired by Mike Plante of the Sundance Institute, will also include Harold Gronenthal of SundanceTV Global; César F. Calvillo, Programming Supervisor at SundanceTV Southern Europe; Iñigo Trojaola, Head of content for the premium film and series channels of Movistar+; Toni Ulled, Director of Fotogramas; the established filmmaker Pablo Berger, winner of two Goya awards for Snow White and nominated this year for Abracadabra; David Sainz and Teresa Segura of Different Entertainment; and Julio Garma, creator of Freaklances and Director of the FEW webseries festival.
The winner, who will be announced in May, will receive a trip for two to London where their short film will be screened during the Sundance Film Festival: London. The short will also be screened at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao at a SundanceTV event to be held in June, in addition to being broadcast on the channel internationally.
