The NDI Central area demonstrates at NAB all the potential of applications under the NDI standard

Already integrated into thousands of solutions and more than 10 million users worldwide, NDI is the most widely adopted IP standard.

A total of fourteen companies are showing at NAB 2018 the possibilities offered by the NDI standard. Developers and creators using NDI are making their projects known as they transition to all IP video production.

Since its presentation in 2015, the standard promoted by NewTek and distributed free of charge has become the de facto industry standard for video sharing over a standard Ethernet network, now in use by 5,000 companies and more than 10 million users worldwide; making it the most widely adopted and used IP standard.

IT IS Central NAB 2018Michael Kornet, executive vice president and general manager of NDI at NewTek, said, "These fourteen companies represent some of the best innovative applications among the approximately one thousand companies incorporating NDI into their products. NAB attendees can explore the NDI ecosystem and discover the amazing devices and applications powered by NDI. These developers share our vision of the end-to-end IP workflow that is a reality today and we are excited to bring them together in the NDI Central Pavilion."

For his part, Filippo Ferlini, sales director in Latin America at NewTek, has assured that "we have been working on IP for many years as demonstrated by the success of Tricaster and other NewTek solutions. Now we are promoting software development as a replacement for the hardware world from which we come. This is the general trend of all markets that have to do with our lives and NDI plays a very important role in this transition."

A relevant aspect that the NDI allows is the possibility of virtualizing television production. “This would mean being able to count on flexible resources activated according to each need. Cisco y Vizrt “At this NAB we are demonstrating this line with great success,” says Ferlini.

In his opinion, now "the main challenge is to produce more while optimizing resources. IP technology allows me to use resources on a case-by-case basis, share all my video sources over existing IP networks or remote productions over IP networks directly. This will allow the use of offshore resources and optimization of costs."

One of the most important applications of the protocol has to do with the use of PTZ cameras since using a simple Ethernet cable it is possible to power the camera, send and receive signals and even control it. In the Central NDI zone, Panasonic is carrying out demonstrations along these lines.

PTZ cameras will be a very important part of production as it reduces the number of operators.

New possibilities are also opening up in working on not only legal but also open networks, workflow optimization and 4K. In fact, NewTek already has a box capable of converting HDMI 4K to NDI.

“Around NDI we can group many resources and synergies to offer the client an open solution from several manufacturers,” concludes Ferlini.
