Global television revenue could fall by 11% until 2023
The Global Pay TV Revenue Forecasts report estimates that eight of the top ten markets will lose pay TV revenue between 2017 and 2023. Revenue will decline in 47 of the 138 countries covered in the report between 2017 and 2023.
Global pay television revenues reached 205 billion in 2016. However, according to a forecast by Digital Tv Research, these revenues would fall by 11% (183 billion) in 2023, despite the number of subscribers increasing at a rate of 9%. Revenue per subscriber is declining as more households convert to bundles.
Simon Murray, senior analyst at Digital TV Research, has assured that "North American income will fall by 22 billion between 2017 and 2023. The global decrease will be 19 billion, so the other regions will grow in general. Western Europe will lose 2 billion, but Asia Pacific will register an increase of 3 billion."

Twelve countries will lose more than 10% of their income. Pay TV revenue in the United States peaked in 2015 at $102 billion. Digital TV Research forecasts a decline of 28 billion between 2015 and 2023 to bring its total to 75 billion.
China will gain almost $1 billion in revenue between 2017 and 2023 to take the total to $13 billion, still a far cry from the US. India will provide the biggest increase in pay TV revenue at $1.6 billion. Revenue will more than double in six countries between 2017 and 2023. Eight of the top ten fastest growing countries will be in Africa.
Revenues from satellite television and digital cable television will remain similar. Satellite television revenues were 83 billion in 2017; falling to 77 billion in 2023, according to this analysis. Digital cable television will contribute 76 billion in 2023, reaching 85 billion in 2023. Analogue cable television still represented 7 billion in 2017.
IPTV will lead pay television revenues, going from 25 billion in 2017 to 27 billion in 2023.
