The Professional Exhibition of Audiovisual Technology, BIT Audiovisual 2018, closed its doors this Thursday at the Madrid Fair. Throughout these three days, managers and CTOs of all the large multimedia communication groups, telcos and regional radio and television stations, as well as numerous local television stations and television, film and advertising production companies, have been able to learn first-hand about the latest technological proposals from 255 companies.

Maria ValcarceMaría Valcarce, director of BIT Audiovisual, at the conclusion of the event, highlighted that "in this new edition, the high profile of the professionals who visit us has been evident, becoming once again the reference show for the sector. One of the assets of BIT Audiovisual is, since its first edition, precisely thirty years ago, its ability to anticipate the changes that have profoundly transformed the industry. An extensive program of conferences with speakers at the highest level and presentations by exhibitors have served once again to take the pulse of a sector in full transformation. BIT Audiovisual has thus once again established itself as a work tool for networking between those who have the responsibility of making transcendental decisions both in terms of technology and new business models.

En esta ocasión, la gran cita bienal del sector se ha abierto a un concepto que va mucho más allá del broadcast tradicional, acercando a empresas y profesionales al mundo de la televisión corporativa, los eSports, el digital signage, las nuevas plataformas de distribución o los emergentes nuevos productores de contenidos.

Al margen del área de exposición, BIT Audiovisual ha contado con un extenso programa de jornadas en las que han participado más de un centenar de ponentes que han debatido numerosas cuestiones en torno a cuatro áreas: broadcast; corporativo y nuevas fórmulas de expresión AV como el digital signage; cine, y publicidad.

Another of the most notable facets of BIT Audiovisual is its strong commitment to emerging talent. The R+D+BIT initiative has once again emerged as a unique platform to publicize research and development projects, both in the university and business fields, that develop technologies, with high added value and growth potential, applied to the audiovisual industry.

For the second consecutive edition, BIT Audiovisual has brought together a selection of proposals developed by universities, entities and companies by virtue of their contribution in terms of the opportunity of the research carried out; its ability to influence the future development of the audiovisual industry; its application potential; the originality of your approach, method or object; and the ability to bring together and generate collaboration between different interested actors.

On this occasion, R+D+BIT Audiovisual has selected the Voxel3d project from the Miguel de Cervantes European University; the work on hyperrealistic previsualization in real time in broadcast and cinema environments, by the Spanish companies Brainstorm, MR Factory and SDI; the conditional coding project for adaptive video distribution, from Nokia Spain; a prototype of an SDN (Software Defined Networking) controller for TSN networks, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering of Castelldefels (EETAC); the Azor project of the Hipermedia Laboratory and the Carlos III University of Madrid; GoAll-PervasiveSUB, from Carlos III University; AutoFace (Politics) from Ugiat Technologies attends R&D+BIT; the ImmersiaTV, ImAc and VR-Together projects, from the i2CAT Foundation; EasyTV (Easing the access of Europeans with disabilities to converging media and content) in which the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM, Spain), Engineering Ingegneria Informatica SPA (ENG, Italy), Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH, Greece), Mediavoice SRL (MV, Italy), Universitat Autònoma Barcelona (UAB, Spain), Corporació Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals SA (CCMA, Spain), ARX.NET participate. BIT Audiovisual Start-ups 2018

As a novelty at BIT Audiovisual 2018, in this year's edition it has launched an initiative focused on highlighting and providing support to recently created companies that develop innovative technology-based projects with broad application potential in the audiovisual technology sector. This is BIT Audiovisual Start-ups 2018, an initiative organized in collaboration with Impulsa Visión of RTVE, with the aim of offering entrepreneurs a meeting point and professional contact, within the framework of the reference fair for the audiovisual technology sector.

Among the start-ups presented, a committee of experts from the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the audiovisual sector has selected half a dozen top-level initiatives linked to accelerators based on criteria of degree of technological innovation; project scalability; application potential and impact in the audiovisual industry; and internationalization potential.

Those selected have been Ugiat Technologies presented by Wayra, the Telefónica accelerator; The Epic School of Telefónica's Open Future accelerator, Racorde, of the Ministry of Education and Culture; Valencia Entrepreneur Shuttle Infomix; EduTECH Emprén from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Ossicles Audio, from the Project Acceleration Program of the Community of Madrid, UtakeONE, from the SPEGC and EOI Business Acceleration Program of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria; Paythunder, Wayhoy!, Golumi, Videona Socialmedia and Rookiebox, from RTVE's Impulsa Visión accelerator.

Within the framework of BIT Audiovisual, the Panorama Awards for excellence in the audiovisual sector took place on May 8.

Established by the leading publication in this sector, Panorama Audiovisual, these awards recognize excellence, technological development and innovation of companies, professionals and productions in television, film, radio and advertising.

The presentation gala, hosted by the journalist and presenter Patricia Betancort, amazed by its original staging, designed by the artist Fernando Vázquez Mourelo in which a giant LED video wall and a video mapping covered the entire catwalk that Madrid Fashion Week usually occupies, more than thirty meters long with 8K projections.

In this edition, the following participated as members of the jury: María Valcarce, director of BIT Audiovisual 2018 (IFEMA); Eladio Gutiérrez, managing partner of the telecommunications and audiovisual media consultancy EGM; the technical director of Zeppelin TV, José Luis Gacal; Antonio Tablero, director of engineering, broadcast and technology at Fox Networks Group; Emilio González-Zuazo, head of the Audiovisual Production department at Real Madrid CF; the sound engineer, Javier Isequilla; Sergi Ovide, CEO of Ovide; José María Casaos, Digital Transformation Manager at StratioBD; the director and head of highly complex projects in the Programming and Image Area of ​​Televisió de Catalunya (TV3) Paulí Subirà; the director of Digital AV Magazine, Ana Sanz; and Antonio Castillo, director of Panorama Audiovisual.

Fernando Navarrete at the 2018 Panorama AwardsUnlike the thirteen categories that make up these awards, whose winners are chosen from the publication's readers and a jury, the Lifetime Award is awarded directly by the editorial staff of Panorama Audiovisual, thus recognizing the contribution of the men and women who have written history in television, film, radio or advertising.

The producer, director and filmmaker Fernando Navarrete received this award on this occasion in recognition of his mastery in television production with a career spanning more than fifty years where he has been an innovator in the use of technology, language and formats.

Those in charge of presenting the award were the veteran actress Concha Velasco, who has collaborated on countless Navarrete programs, and Manuel Campo-Vidal, president of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, an institution of which Fernando Navarrete is vice president.
