Christie CP4230 and Cineteca

The projector Christie CP4230 is having a starring role in the retrospective that the National Cinematheque of Mexico is dedicating to the American filmmaker Wes Anderson with the screening of his complete filmography. The team, installed in Room 1, has been in charge of the projection of dog island (2018) which has inaugurated the cycle that takes place from May 18 to 31.

The National Cineteca, inaugurated in 1974, is an institution dedicated to the preservation, cataloguing, exhibition and dissemination of cinema in Mexico. It has an area of 29,000 square meters and has 10 rooms and an open-air forum that is visited by more than a million people a year.

The institution acquired the aforementioned 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) Christie CP4230 digital cinema projector for its largest room, which has a 11.6 x 6 meter screen and capacity for 360 people.

Engineer Víctor Flores Rodríguez, technical manager of the Cineteca, explains the reasons for choosing this projector: “Due to its native 4K resolution, the Christie CP4230 allows us to display all current digital cinema content. Furthermore, we are inspired by the confidence of a leading brand that is widely used in commercial and, as in our case, cultural film exhibition.”

Flores Rodríguez also highlights the most outstanding features of the machine: “Its main strengths are its native 4K resolution and the 1.4” size of its DMD, without forgetting the DLP technology Texas Instruments used, as well as its compatibility with digital cinema servers. And, of course, operational reliability in continuous use. “This is a very reliable projector that is easy to maintain and adjust.”

Restored 4K movies

Room 1 where the Christie CP4230 is installed is used to project various national and international cultural film series, as well as for cultural and multimedia events. A good part of the films that are exhibited in this room have been restored and converted to 4K format by the Digital Restoration Laboratory of the Cineteca.

The technical manager of the Cineteca does not want to fail to highlight the training and support that Christie offers to its clients and partners in Mexico: “We think it is excellent that there is a Christie certification program for service engineers in our country,” says Flores Rodríguez. “It has allowed us to delve into the operation of our projector and diagnose faults, in addition to being able to count on direct support through the Christie training engineer in Mexico,” he adds.

Ernesto Armus, director of Christie in Mexico, is delighted that an entity of the prestige of the Cineteca Nacional has a Christie film projector in its main room: “We are extremely pleased that the public of the Cineteca Nacional can enjoy the highest quality projection of a director of the stature of Wes Anderson and all the cycles that this entity offers in its star theater.”

And he concludes by stating that "Christie is committed to innovation and offering the best cinema experience for our clients, whether they are large multiplexes, film libraries, independent theaters, festivals, drive-ins or post-production companies. They all enjoy the same level of commitment and dedication from our company. Therefore, we are in a position to provide them with the technology they need to promote cinematic and alternative content in 2K, 4K and 3D, on standard or large format screens."

The Wes Anderson retrospective at the Cineteca includes the screening of a short film and his nine feature films. The American director has been nominated for six Oscars and recently won the Silver Bear for Best Director for Isle of Dogs.
