The British Film Institute opts for Christie for its main screening room

The CP4420-RGB pure laser projector Christie arrives at NF1, the main screening room for BFI Southbank, headquarters of British Film Institute.

After a trial period in BFI London Film Festival, the British Film Institute team has decided to keep in its projection room NF1 the pure laser projector CP4420-RGB, a system ready to offer “incredibly colorful and detailed realistic images relying on electronics Christie CineLife+ and lighting technology RealLaser.

Dominic Simmons, director of technical services at BFI, had been confident in the reliability and performance of the projector Christie Series One for fourteen years. However, the technician decided that it was time to perform a investment and going laser. The result of Christie's CP4420-RGB has been completely satisfactory: "We liked the results we saw with the laser at the Festival. It was also very well received by the filmmakers. They loved the images."

The CP4420-RGB projector 20,000 lumens, beyond its wide color fidelity, can be adapted to projection in formats such as 4K 120 fps, 4K 60 fps or 3D playback. On the operational side, the projector is designed with a light source more than 50,000 hours of brightness stable specified by DCI. “Low maintenance is clearly a positive, there will be savings with each use and there will be no need to change lamps, which is very useful,” adds Simmons.

The NFT1 remodel also included updating the audio system. "Listen Live Audio in another theater and I thought it sounded great," explains Simmons. "We wanted to upgrade, and Christie had a great solution with line array ribbon drive technology. Christie assisted us in the consulting process and NFT1 was equipped with five LA3i line arrays and five S215 subwoofers for the display channels, two S218LP subwoofers and LA3Si surround speakers.” For this project, Christie has partnered with Powersoft, whose world-class amplifiers are compatible with Christie Vive Audio.
